I lived on the first floor and during the non-winter months, the bug problem was serious. I had to spray pesticides around the balcony every day and I always kept it close. However, that did not stop them from coming in. One time I had literally troops (hundreds!) of ants crawling into my bathroom eating my toothpaste! On several occasion, I even saw centipedes on my wall! They were at least 8 inches long.
The insulation was non-existent. My electric bills during winter could go as high as $200 a month. Remember, that was 6 years ago when oil price was not $140 a barrel.
My neighbor upstairs had pets and I could hear loud and hear when they were playing.
