Good outweighs the bad - overall not a bad place

I've lived at. H.P. for 2 1/2 years, and am a professional working in Milwaukee. To sum up:
THE BAD: Some of the tenants make for less than desirable neighbors, but in all my time here I have only had one bad experience, where a tennat in my section smoking marujuana which could be smelled throughout the hall. While it took longer than I would have liked to resolve the problem (I was told one week - turned out to be more like three), the staff and aptmt security were very friendly and receptive to my concerns. There are tenants with little sense of common courtesy who leave their garbage bags in the vestibule of my building by the small garbage can meant for cans and papers, but to their credit the complex cleans up any mess daily, and vaccums and air freshens all common areas every morning. There is a 'ghetto' element in some areas, but most of the other tenants I have met are nice, decent people. Parking is only occasionally a problem (sometimes people not assigned to your building's parking lot park there, making you hunt for the last 1 or 2 spots), but I've only not been able to park in front of my building twice in 30 months.

THE GOOD: The apartments with lake views like mine provide a wonderful view year round, and the sunken living room and fireplace are a nice touches. The staff has always been helpful and courteous to me, and any maintenance repairs I have had were always dealt with promptly. It's true that the mall is dead, and that most immediate dining is fast-food central, but honestly, nothing is too far from anything in Milwaukee, and good restaurants are a short drive a way. A brand new Pick-n-Save grocery store opened up within the year right up the road, and there's a Target, Best Buy and Wal-Mart almost across the street.

Overall I was quite satisfied with Harbour Pointe - it's not perfect and could do with a more stringent screening of some tenants, but the plusses of a nice, competent staff, natural beauty, and the clubhouse amenities of indoor pool, jacuzzi, weight room and the tennis and sand v-ball courts more than offset it. I'm moving because of a job change, but would recommend this complex to those moving to the area.
