Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009

Okay, after reading all of these reviews I just could not help myself but to laugh and agree with most. My husband and I were initially looking for something inexpensive in the brown deer area where we could save money. I was somewhat skeptical about these apartments because they used to be Northridge Lakes, which have been known to be super-ghetto. Well (our first mistake, if you want to see an apartments true colors go in the summer!) we decided to view the apartments late March/early April of 2009. We were impressed because it was quiet and the amenities that were offered. We then moved in on July 1 and were in complete awe at the difference. The apartment itself was neat: we have a sunken living room and a fireplace that overlooks the lake. (With the exception of the kitchen, which has kind of a stupid set-up because the stove is too big where it literally cuts off 2 cabinets that can t be used.) However, you literally have to go through Harlem to get into your apartment. The high rises across the street are low income and the tenants there are always outside. (You know the kind that you feel is waiting for you to leave or come so they can mess up your stuff) Thank god our cars have never been broken into, but other people's apartments have been. Since we have been there have been 4 break-ins in our building and two in the one next door. (My friend lives over there) The other weekend I was in the elevator with 4 detectives and 2 police officers who stated this was their 3rd time out there this week. The crime is completely awful and we are so dissatisfied. The halls are always dirty and smell like cat piss. (It s funny because I thought it was just our building, but my friend's lobby smells the same way) We feel that we were completely suckered and cannot wait until our lease is up to get out of here. I have spoken with other tenants who feel the same way. Harbor Points is good at talking a good game but falls shorts of expectations. When we make large purchases we feel we have to sneak it in the middle of the night so someone doesn t break into your apartment and still it the next day. (We bought a 52' LCD TV and play station and were scared too bring it in) I don t think it s the worse place, but you can definitely do better. Some people like, some people hate it. I would not recommend it to a single women or heck even a married one because even I will not go home alone and often find myself driving around waiting for my husband to get off. Oh the walls are super thin and you can hear everything and yes I mean everything. Please don t believe the good reviews you see about this place they have to be working for the complex. Ask the office what is the average length of stay for their tenants. Also when looking for places look for cosmetic issues like are the names on the mailbox in uniform, how does the hallway look or smell. Look at the doors or apartment locks to see if they have been changed or tampered with. This can be signs of a break in. Lastly try you stay away from floor level apartments those are more prone to break-ins. Just please be careful.

We just moved out of there. It is the worst place to live. My friend just moved out of there. She lived in the building where all of the break ins occured. She said they happen all of the time. NEVER answer your door. I guess he comes at like 4 or 5am. This place should really be shut down. The management is HORRIBLE!!!!!!! They lie, and try to get you to rent, and then screw you in the end. I wish you luck with the rest of your lease! and be careful!!!!!!
