REGRET EVER MOVING IN!
1.) Parking
When we moved in we were assured we could get an underground parking spot, which is honestly the only reason we decided to move in. The office manager hasn't had any underground spots availiable in MONTHS or a garage door opener even. People who dont have permits park down there like idiots. 5th ward lofts is on the corner of 2nd st. and oregon. During the winter you cannot park along 2nd street or you will be ticketed. PArking along oregon St. is almost impossible because there is so much ice and snow, that if you do park you will either get stuck or get a ticket. There are also frequent break-ins on oregon and pittsburgh st, so pretty much unless you get an underground parking spot your car is screwed.
2.) Noise
I live under a crazy lady and some guy who are always screaming. I can hear them through the floor. Their music is always loud and when I turn on my music or watch a movie with the surround sound even slightly she comes outside and screams up the atruim (which by the way is open to the sky so the second you open your door you are hit with either extreme heat or an icy blast of air) There are people always partying and loud noises at barclose time (2am-3am) and when I'm laying in my bed I can hear them coming in and people throwing up off their balconies. People leave beer bottles in the main lobby on their way out for the night and this sweet hispanic grounds keeper is left cleaning up their messes.
3.) Genaral condition
When we moved into our apartment we were assured that it would be in pristine condition. There was a huge stain on the carpet in the living room which STILL hasn't been dealt with and we have been in for almost a year now. The handles and faucets are nasty looking and rusty and our shower dial falls off daily. Baths aren't an option since the metal stoppers don't work. The apartment was very dusty when we moved in. The front panels of some of our cabinets were falling off before I repaired them. There are spackle holes in the walls

5th Ward does suck pretty bad- but you get what you pay for man -er "m'am".
And noone has a blancony here- you must mean puking off the hallway/corridor walkway, but I have never scene that happen.
I have been waiting for an underground spot since June '08 when I moved in.... it is now almost June '09. Also- my outdoor parking spot has been occupied 5 times since I moved in- to my knowledge none of these people who squatted into my spot were ticketed or towed.
5th Ward Lofts definately needs to get the parking thing figured out a little better..
My neighbors also complain about the slightest sounds despite their loud antics, but hey, what can you do- it's an apartment building (and the walls are thin in this one). As long as my neighbors don't report me and tell me when it's too loud (and I agree), it's no big deal.
I think it's sad how people are so anti-social these days they just call the apt. office when it's as simple as can be to just calmly talk to your neighbor and politely ask that they keep their noise levels reasonable (I don't go out into the atrium and scream though- that lady must be crazy!). lol
Bottom line- this isn't the greatest place in the world (if I paid affordable housing rates I prob. would think it is!), but it's not all that bad. If you are looking for a temporary place to stay near downtown Milwaukee that is not too expensive- Fifth Ward Lofts is most definately a place you should consider. The rooftop is amazing.
