We lived in this building from 2005-2006. Due to the ventilation shafts that run between all of the apartments, you get to share all the smells of your neighbors, including cigarette smoke. The smoke became so terrible that we taped up all the ventilation grates, put towels under the front door, and kept our windows open year round (in Wisconsin!). After many complaints, and even though our lease was up in three months, the leasing office would not let us leave, even though they acknowledged the level of the problem. We ended up moving out and paying double rent, just to save our own lungs. Avoid these buildings at all costs!
