I have not had the same experiences that you have listed. I am going on my second year of renting and haven't had any problems. Last winter I heard they got rid of the maintenance man, then we had the snow storm...they hired some yahoo to plow, and the next thing you know...the maintenance man (Joe) was back...YIPPEE!
I love not having to shovel, mow, rake, can't hear the neighbors next door, can hear some feet moving around (nothing to complain about). Apartments are large, open, and roomy. A bit pricey, but hey...we don't pay heat. All in all, I'm very satisfied.

Just wait til you try to move out. That's when my troubles started. I lived there for 15 months before that and other than Joe being slow to respond to maintenance calls, it was fine, but boy were the office ladies terrible in all aspects when I left. I love owning my own home now!
