Unpleasant Surprises After Move-In
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 3/2/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
It's a long review, but PLEASE read! Nothing is right about these apartments, and I wish someone would have told me before I signed a lease!!!
When we looked at these apartments, we were impressed with the high ceilings, spacious rooms, attached garage, and washer and dryer in the unit. However, the unit that is shown is not the one you will be renting. Our unit doesn't have the high ceilings (we were told the builders "forgot" to put them in this building). While we do have a washer and dryer, the washer does not do a quality job. Many times I have to put the loads through twice in order for things to get clean. Meanwhile I'm paying for the water and electricity to do this. Our carpets were poorly installed and now all the seams are very visible. There are obvious lines running through the living room, hallway, and bedrooms. Also, the carpet is coming up around the edges. I talked to the maintaince man (yes, there is only one for the entire complex) who agreed the carpets need to be fixed and suggested they be re-stretched. Instead, the apartment office had someone re-glue the seams (which did nothing to improve the look of the carpet). When our carpets were re-glued no one told us they would be entering our apartment. The reason I knew someone had been in my apartment is because whoever came in left the door unlocked while I was away at work all day. The maintainance staff plows the snow into a large bank behind my garage which does not leave enough room for me to back out of the garage. Several times I have hit the snow bank, and I am worried about breaking my car's bumper. I talked to the staff about this at the beginning of winter, but nothing has changed. When it snows, the staff is not quick to plow, sometimes it doesn't get done until afternoon. I have been late for work several times because I cannot get out of my garage. It seems really nice when you hear the apartment has an attached garage, but is it really an asset if you cannot get out of it when it snows' The last time I got my car stuck in the snow trying to get out after a snowstorm I called the office to ask for help. I was told someone would come help me, but I waited ten nimutes and no one came so I called back. Then I was told they could not help me because it was against their policies. This woman hung up on me. I called back again and was told that the maintainance man was on his way. An hour later, with the help of some neighbors, my car was out of the snow, but no one from the staff had come yet. I was an hour late to work. I called to talk to the manager about how I was hung up on, and the manager said she did not have any time to talk. Also, there is no heat in the stairwell of the apartment (I have an upper) which I did not realize when I toured in the summer. The stairwell is 35 degrees and this cold air comes up to the dining area. I contacted the staff about this and they said that is the way the building is and there is nothing they can do about it. That is something I would have liked to know before renting here.
These apartments look nice from a distance, but once you live here there are constant headaches. When you pay as much as these apartments charge, you deserve a better quality apartment and service that is not rude.
