All was adequate until it was time to leave

The buidlinga appear nice on the outside, the neighbors are mostly nice, and everything was moving along ok until after going month to month for a number of months it was time to 'sign a new lease or leave', management was perfectly within their rights to ask me to do this, but I apparently chose the wrong option.
Starting from the beginning, the apartment appeared in great shape when I first moved in. It was all nice and sparkly. Loved it. In fact I enjoyed living there for about 3 years, maintenance was always timely and always done right. The maintenance guy I met was a very nice guy.
Apparently there was a turnover in management while I was living there.
One day, after being on a month to month lease for 2 years I got a knock on my door and was told I had 30 days to sign a new 12 month lease or 90 days to vacate the apartment. No problem, I think they are within there rights to ask that of me, the problem was that I apparently chose the wrong option. As soon as I said that I wasn't going to sign the lease, but would be moving out I think I went onto some kind of bad list in the office. Maintenance became very slow to respond.
With 60 days until I was to vacate the premises Management started putting a notice on my door saying things like 'there will be a showing of the apartment from 9am to 11am on Thursday'. No problem. I would get the place straightened up as best I could given I was in various stages of packing up all my stuff and make sure I would out of the place for the time period.
One day with about 30-45 days until I was supposed to be out I got a call at work saying that they had wanted to show the place in 15 minutes and would that be ok' For a few reasons I wasn't comfortable with having strangers walking through my place that day so said I would prefer it if they didn't. Ok no problem. About 5 minutes later I got a call from Tim asking again. I explained to Tim that for a couple of reasons I would prefer it that they didn't go in. Tim got quite angry with me on the phone telling me that I should let them in no matter what - and I quote - 'last time I checked we own the place, not you!!!'. When I got home that night there were 6 notices posted to my door. There will be a showing 9am - 6pm Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. It continued like that until the day I moved out... How petulant.
Since I moved out and bought my own place I realised that the construction of those apartments must not be quite as good as it appears. My 1,800sqft house costs about 20% less in energy costs month over month compared to my 1,200sqft deer creek run apt.
Now I'm sure Tim will come on here and post another 5 out of 5 rosy review. Maybe even accuse me of being bitter about being charged for repairs after I left. I'm not. One thing I was actually pleasantly surprised about after I left was what I got charged for the repairs, I was expecting to have to fight rediculous charges, but I think they ended up being pretty fair.
To sum it up, over the time I was there I spent over $36,000 on rent. Never in my whole life have I spent close to that amount of money with a company and come away with such a bad taste in my mouth.
