Terrible!

Years at this apartment: 1995 - 2007

We lived in these apartments for a total of 17 years. At first we thought they were great. As the years went by, they got worse and worse. We always had problems with mold in the bathrooms. The entire wall with tile had to be replaced in our bathroom because it started to cave in. There was always mold on the ceiling and the wall above the tile in the shower that we couldnt get rid of. It was removed and repainted and still came back several times. The knob in the shower even came out one time when we went to shut off the shower. It just fell off and it was spraying water everywhere and flooded our bathroom because we couldnt shut it off. The water all ran downstairs into the apartment below us. We always had problems with cracked ceilings and cracks in the walls. We had problems with tons of carpenter ants and other bugs every year. You pay heat and therefore you really have no control over the temperature in your apartment. You could have it set on 70 or even shut off and it would be 95 in your apartment. They would shut the boilers off on Memorial Day and turn them back on Labor Day so if it was hot you would have heat and when it was cold you would freeze. There was no happy medium other than to waste their heat and sleep with your windows open half the time and deal with the noise or bundle up under a blanket. There is no central air, so you always had to deal with putting in your own airconditioner in a space in the wall that is built in for an airconditioner or you had to rent one from the landlord and pay extra for it. And they always leaked and got the carpet all wet. We always seemed to run out of hot water. You had to get your own washer and dryer and pay an electrician to come hook up the dryer if the previous tentant didnt have a hookup in the basement for it, or you would have to fight over 2 pay washers and dryers with all the other tenants. And if you had your own washer, you had to pay $7 extra a month per person that lived in your apartment. They say they pay for water, but then they charge you extra for water if you dont use their pay washers. And you had to keep an eye on your washer and dryer so that other people didnt use them, steal your laundry soap or dryer sheets. We even had people shut our dryer off all the time, somoene stole the metal tubing off our dryer, once someone took all our laundry out of the dryer and spread it all over the basement floor, and once somene cut holes in a shirt that was in our washer. There was no assigned parking, so you could never park anywhere close to your apartment unless you were the first one home during the day to get a spot while everyone else was gone. If you left, someone would go move their car and take your spot. People would have guests over and they would park in the lot instead of on the street and the paying tenants would'nt have a spot to park in and the management never did anything about it. You only got one parking spot and had to pay $15 extra for another spot if you needed one. Some families got away with having like 3-5 cars and not paying extra, while other familes had to pay for 1 extra spot. Some people would even park their car crooked across two spots to save a spot for someone. People would grill on their patio's or balconies and you were supose to only grill 10 feet from the building with a propane tank 1 lb or less. Everyone was breaking these rules and some people would get in trouble and some would not. There were tons of kids always playing in the hallways and the basement and you could always here them screaming, slamming doors, playing loud music, practicing gymnastics, dancing, leaving garbage all over, ect. They were rude and would never move out of your way so you could walk up the stairs. The storage lockers always leaked and we had to throw away everything that was in ours because it was all ruined and full of mold. They also were very easy to break into and people always threw trash over the top of them into yours. The basement stairs were old painted wood stairs that were always cracked and slippery and easy to fall on. I fell a few times on them carrying laundry. The basement cement floor was always slippery and wet from the wash tubs overflowing and no one caring. The outside cement stairs and sidewalks were not always salted and I fell one time and hurt my back really bad and complained and the next day the manangement left a bucket of salt in the hallway. It was like they were trying to tell me it was our responsibility to salt their stairs and sidewalk. I dont rememeber seeing that in our lease. Then they started putting buckets of salt in all the hallways and the kids would dump them all over and make a mess. My car was broken into 3 times in the parking lot, my husbands car had the antena stolen, someone threw up all over our car one time in the parking lot, kids would spit their gum on your cars, kids and parents would play frisby, tennis, football or catch with a ball in the parking lot and would hit cars with the ball or frisby and not care. Kids were always running and riding their bikes all over in the parking lot and would run out infront of your car as you were trying to drive. We experienced problems with employees of the manangement like the time I had the plummer walk in on me once while I was in the shower and the landlord told me he had off that day so he would not be there. I was scarred to death because I was not expecting him. We had people come paint our porch while we were at work and they left a paint can cover on our new kitchen table and got paint on it, and left my porch door and my other door open. We were lucky no one came in and stole anything. We even had to call the police once on an employee because of something they did, and the management was aware of it and we never even recieved an apology from them or their employee. We had to share a porch with our next door nieghbor, so at times they would be looking into our kichen window and watchin us and our other nieghbor had a porch off of our living room window, so we never felt like we had any privacy. The walls were paper thin and you could hear everything your neighbors were doing and saying. In all 17 years, the only update we ever got was new carpet in our living room and we had to beg for it because ours was falling apart. You could have a cat, but you had to pay $150 pet deposit. Some people were never asked to pay and some had to pay for it. If you wanted a garage, that was extra, but most of them were taken and you couldnt even get one. They were no where even near your apartment either. If you wanted to transfer to another apartment, they would charge you a $100 transfer fee. Everything had extra costs. Even though they were cheaper apartments, in the end by the time you were done paying for extra stuff, you could of just moved to a nicer apartment that included everything and paid about the same. The manangement always seemed to show favortism. Like I said up above, some people got away without having to pay extra cost and others didnt. The families that caused problems never got in trouble and the finger was always pointed at innocent families. So none of the problems were ever resolved. After new owners came in, we thought things would get better. But they didnt. Still had the same problems as before. Nothing seemed to change at all. The only changes they made were getting rid of half the tenants, and not renewing their leases for no reason and then they updated the apartments so they could make more money. Atleast they could of got rid of people that caused problems, but they didnt. They kept the trouble makers. It was awful to have to see this happening to so many families. Especially ones that had children in the schools that had to be moved to different schools, and families that didnt have money for moving costs. I would not recommend these apartments to anyone. The manangement only cares about collecting their rent and thats all. The only reason we stayed there so long was for the schools. We even moved to a different building during the 17 years we were there and thought it would be much better and the apartment would be more updated, but it wasnt. It was worse. And we had more problems in that apartment then the 1st apartment we lived in there. We are much happier in a much better place now. We are sorry we stayed their so long and put up with the stuff we did. Living in an apartment you expect some noise, have to deal with neighbors, lack of privacy, other people's kids, ect. But that place was the worst! We have lived in other apartments and never experienced what we did living there and have friends and family that do too and have never experienced all the problems we had living there either. We also knew alot of the other tenants that lived there and had alot of the same complaints. We would not recommend these apartments to anyone. There are much better ones out there. But if you dont mind cheap, bug problems, cracked walls and ceilings, noise, no privacy, unprofessional management, parking problems, nosy neighbors, dont mind fighting over pay washers and dryers, your car broken into, not being able to control the heat, mold problems, high school kids skipping school and smoking in the basements, ect. then maybe you will like these apartments. We obviously didnt and wanted to share our experience. To each their own. If you live there or decide to move there...I wish you the best of luck!
