aka UW Oshkosh North

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I will start with the positive aspects. The leasing staff is polite and friendly and the maintenance staff is, too, if a bit apathetic to resident requests. The leasing office is in a larger central building which features an exercise room and a swimming pool, as well as a hospitality room with cozy fireplace. These amenities may be used by residents and their guests. The apartment layouts - there are about six different configurations - are open and airy. Our appliances were new and by GE. No microwave is provided. There are two washers and dryers per eight apartments. This is more than sufficient. The grounds are dull, but well taken care of.
Now the negatives, starting with facilities. Given that Oshkosh is in central Wisconsin, winter brings very cold temps, fair amounts of snow, and windy conditions. It is, therefore, not ideal that only one garage is provided per apartment, forcing the second car to be out in the elements. For someone used to heated underground parking (our apt. in Milwaukee) this is a major inconvenience. Also, there are no trees to be found anywhere here and the wind does whip this area nicely. A major drawback and a security risk is that mailboxes are grouped in clusters in little huts throughout the complex. In this age of identity theft this is not ideal. What's worse, packages are left in an unlocked public lobby in the leasing office. Anybody could walk in, pretend to be a resident, and take a package without showing ID. Not good. The biggest problem, however, is NOISE. There are many UW Oshkosh students living here, even though the apartments are technically out of a student's pricerange. They can afford to live here by occupying the apartments with numerous persons, on or off the lease. Once you are in, no one cares. Our references were never consulted and our credit never checked, so I can't imagine any others were either. On weekends our building turns into party central. We have bass thumping our walls from three directions. Although older folks do live in our building, a few college students really make it a bad place to live. There is no reasoning with them and the leasing office will not help you with noise. They tell you to call the police. Whatever. If these were cheap apartments I would not be so ticked off by the noise but the issue is this: the apartment marketing materials describe this complex as being a 'community of luxury apartments.' Hardly. Hardly! People make the building as much as the amenities and apartment layout. Garbage in, garbage out as the saying goes. For all the reasons described above, I would NOT recommend this apartment complex. Unless you thrive in chaos, that is.
