I've lived in Prairie Landing Apartments for over a year now and I can tell you this place is weird. The people that are in charge treat their tenants like preschoolers. They leave childish notes on the laundry room walls and in the hallways. There is dog crap all over the lawn. The loud lawn maintenance crews show up nice and early and stay for the better part of the afternoon. This year on the first good snowfall we were all stuck in our apartments because the snow removal crew didn't come and plow us out at all that day. There is salt sprinkled on the walkways only because there is a tenant downstairs that does it out of the goodness of his heart. The laundry room usually has at least some broken machines and the driers especially take more money than they should for one load. The paint job when we moved in was fresh, but it looks like it was done by a 2 year old. There is paint on all the light switches and the trim/baseboards and carpet. The windows in both bedrooms leaked until I caulked them myself. Neither one of the bathroom doors lock because there were new doors put on before we moved in, and they are the wrong size. We've had to replace the heating unit in our living room once already and since the replacement broke we decided to use a space heater from walmart instead. Our rent was just raised and we are planing to move out. The only redeeming quality is the town's little coffe shop where for under 10 dollars two people can enjoy a homecooked breakfast and dark roast coffee. We'll miss it when we're gone. I'm also going to miss my security deposit because I have the strangest feeling I won't be seeing it any time soon. You have to fill out a list of things to clean/replace before you get your security deposit, and the list is lengthy. It seems like the type of place that does that just to keep your money. Only time will tell if I'll ever get it back. I guess you get what you pay for. Rent last year on my two bedroom two bath upper was 550. I think it goes for almost 700 this year. Not worth it imho. For 700 bucks a month, I'll move to Elkhorn or Lake Geneva.
