We lived in Estabrook Homes a while ago and all I can tell you is DON'T RENT FROM THEM!!! The owner is a old greedy ------- who is disrespectful and inconsiderate. Jane (the manager) is a nice woman is you are on her good side, but be careful because once you get on her bad side (and most of the time you don't know why or how you did) she will be the biggest B**** ever!!! They tell you one thing but do another and when you call them out on it, they accuse you of lying and won't do anything. The utility bills are outrageous and if you ever have a problem, don't bother calling the emergency pager number because NO ONE responds. Notice I said EMERGENCY. Also, they don't keep track of who pays on time and who doesn't and numerous times we were accused of not paying rent even though I had copies of our cancelled checks that they cashed. The bugs are terrible, your stuff gets stolen out of the parking garage because none of them are locked. When we went to Jane and told her about it, she said "well, don't keep things down there then. It's not our fault." Also, be careful because they claim that they "automatically" renew the lease if you don't put in your 60 day notice. They CAN NOT do this and when I contacted a real estate attorney , they told me the same thing. Both Jane and the owner (Dan D.) tried to tell us that we were in a new lease, but my roomate and I knew better and eventually got out of it. They will also try and scare you into staying, saying that you have to pay each months rent until the vacancy is filled, but if you don't have a new signed lease, then 60 days is all you need in order to get out of it. Make sure EVERYTHING that is said/promised/agreed upon is in writing so they can't go back on thier word. They also say they your lease will be unchanged, however they do change is in various spots. So, wach out for that or else they will get you with cleaning fees, lates fees, different rent prices (like the people across the hall were paying $35 less then us a month for the SAME apartment)etc. DO NOT RENT HERE!!! The owner does not care about you, he just wants his money and will do anything to get it. STAY AWAY FROM ESTABROOK HOMES OR YOU WILL BE SORRY!!!
