i completely agree with what the others below me have said. I feel terrible because when we moved into this place in shorewood we thought it was great and referred several other of our friends to move in as well who have all gotten completely screwed over. When we moved out of our apartment we scrubbed the whole place and we were still charged $1500. We put in our 60 day notice, and thought everything was taken care of with our move out, but a month and a half after we had left she called asking us why we had not paid or rent. I explained that we had actually taken a position resident managing our own apartment building and had moved out (AND GIVEN NOTICE.) She didn't like that, and freaked out on us. Then a whole month after that she called asking if we had left anything in the apartment or cleaned it. I said yes we had cleaned it, but we had abandoned a couch in the apartment because i had no help to move it out. She said that she wouldn't release my lease or let me stop paying until i moved the couch out. Even though, i had been gone for almost 3 months, and had no keys anymore. Still, after i did this, i didn't get my security deposit notice or move out inspection form for another month or so. She charged me HUNDREDS of dollars for things i KNOW i noted in the move in inspection form. $400 for knife marks in the counter tops that im sure were not fixed or replaced. $200 for cleaning the spotless apartment that i left. Even if she paid the workers $10/hr to clean a FILTHY apartment there wouldn't be 20 hours worth of work for this tiny apartment.
Nothing ever got fixed for us while we were there, and we were charged for the things when we moved out. One time when our sink had been broken for over a week and running water our under the sink and molding we called to yell about having to do our dishes in the bathtub, and we were told we needed to call and apologize to them for being mean on the phone before they would come and fix it. The maintenance men dont do anything. In fact once, i caught one of them painting the slot that you enter your key into to get into the parking garage yellow, while the other 3 people on the maintenance crew stood around watching. This place is terrible. There were beer cans in our front yard for weeks and no one cleaned them up so i did it myself. There were trees down blocking our sidewalk in the back for an entire summer. There was a large cherry picker piece of tracker equipment in our front yard for the year and a half that i lived there, and it never moved.
Jane the manager still to this day calls and leaves me threatening messages on my voicemail, and our repeated attempts to get through to the owner have been fruitless. We've talked to him twice and both times he told us he doesn't know what is going on, and we should talk to Jane. She screams at you on the phone. She never answers the office line, and doesn't call you back for weeks at a time... and then blames it on you. Being a resident manager myself now for another well known rental company on the east side has shown me just how crooked this place is. Since leaving Estabrook my fiance has gone through landlord training and most of the things we were charged for are completely illegal.
I say, let them take me to court for what we still owe. I've paid what i feel i should be charged for, and i've had no success getting them to talk to me about the fines that i dont think i should have to pay. They threaten to take us to court all the time, but she wont even give me any kind of documentation other than the 1/3 of the piece of computer paper, written completely illegibly in pencil and not signed at all that says i owe $1200 in damages. I have since paid most of that money, and yet when she leaves me messages she now says that i owe $1500... but will not call me back regarding why after paying most of the damages i now owe more than i did to begin with. THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE and should be shut down or investigated.
the shoveling never gets done even after days and weeks of feet high snow. Nothing was ever salted the entire time we lived there, and they claim to have a 102 year old woman living there. The parking garage is terrible and rarely do the doors do the parking garage work. Often times you need to get out of your car, enter the parking garage and manually open the doors to get them to go up. The spots are cramped and the whole time we lived there we were on a "waiting list" for a 2nd spot. even though we knew of several move outs and empty spots for apartments for no cars. Not to mention after we moved out someone started parking in my spot and she called me months later to say she was not going to release my lease or let me stop paying because i was still parking there.... what' i dont even live anywhere close to there, and it wasn't my car! The garage is not locked and homeless people break into cars and sleep in the entrance ways. The same is for the clubhouse. It's never locked, and really run down the pool is not heated and the hot tub is broken. it's green and leaves you slimy and with a rash. We called several times through our lease to ask them to fix these things and they swore at us and told us they had better things to be doing with their time. The fitness center is a joke. there are a couple machines in a room that are always broken but that they never fix.
When we initially signed up for this apartment we were shown the model apartment. we put down our $200 deposit, but then Jane called us to tell us that she wouldn't have an apartment available for us in July when we were supposed to move in. So we were frantically trying to find somewhere else to live since our previous lease was up at the beginning of July. Thankfully she found a place for us, but wouldn't let us view it before we moved in. She said generally they don't let people do that until after they sign the lease. We complained enough that she let is see it. it was a completely different layout than the model apartment, but this being 3 days before our previous lease was up... we signed anyways. Now i wish we wouldn't have. I really wish we would have just found somewhere else to live, and taken that as a sign.
i wish i could write all of the horror stories that we have about this place, but i don't have enough time in the day to list them all. I just wish the nightmare could be over, but i don't want to give her any more of my money that i don't feel i should have to pay. It seems everyone else is having the same problem with them though. I completely understand. I hated living there, I was sick for months with headaches and shortly before we moved we discovered we had mold in the walls caused by the water heater. After we moved my headaches stopped. Jane, is very rude and does not care about anything. My boyfriend at the time also hit a pole with his car. I hope that you can find a better place. I remember the whrilpool was horrible too! It was slimy and and I had a rash. I never went in there again. Im sure they have "better things to do" that place is a joke!!

At one time it was a respectable place to live. Now this place is more of a rooming house or student type of housing. No one stays. The class of person living here you would normally find in a not so nice place in Milwaukee. The place when we moved in was full of old people who lived here a long time. When we moved about a year ago, none of the long term people were there anymore.
