Choose Not to Live Here!!!

I have been a resident for five months, and I should have chosen a different place to live (we should have bought a house). I will not recommend Mountain Village to anyone, for a number of reasons:

1. Parking - We have two cars, and were assigned one underground parking spot, eventhough there are extra spots, they will not give us an additional spot, not even for an extra monthly fee. The garage door opener stopped working the second month we lived here, and we were told that we had to buy a replacement battery, at our cost. The parking lot is not well-lit, especially during the summer months.

2. Noise - When we took our tour, we were assured that the apartment was sound-proof, and a quiet place to live, (I have this on video-tape). Actually, we found the walls and floors to be "paper-thin," because we can hear everything the upper and lower neighbors do. We can hear them walking around, shouting, slamming doors, making "bathroom noices" and various bedroom activities. Loud music is a problem, and patio doors open loudly. We have called the leasing office repeatedly, to report noise and they seem apathic to our situation. It was suggested to me, that when the neighbors are loud, I should go knock on their doors, and tell them to be quiet. I thought to myself, "Is that not the office staff's job'" I have had to call the police at 3:00 AM to file a noice complaint (the neighbors must have been having a party on a Thursday night). The office will get the police reports if they are notified about the incident. They told me "three strikes and you're out".

3. Grounds - we moved in during the winter, because of the view of Waukesha, now the leaves are on the trees, and they block our view. Nature is nice, but I would rather look at the city lights. Some people may enjoy the nature, but the maintenance staff should plant perennials instead of replanting flowers every year.

4. Safety - Garbage area is poory lit. At night it is dark by the garbage and recycling area. I keep expecting to find a homeless person sleeping back there at night, when I take out the trash.

5. Construction - Cheap materials were used. There are floor to ceiling mirrors on every closet door, it is kind of annoying and creapy, that you can look at yourself that much. The carpet was stained when we moved in, and not very clean. The vertical blinds are dirty and do not block out the light. The medicine cabinets are cheap plastic. Not enough counter space in the kitchen. No private laundry. There are not enough washers and dryers to accommodate everyone. The elevator is too small, and we had a difficult time fitting our couch in it when we moved in. No outdoor outlets on the balcony. Storage is a real problem, it is in another building on the second floor, and the storage lockers are small.

6. Maintenance - The Balcony needs to be restained, the boards are splintered and weathered. The 20 year-old refrigerator broke, and they gave us a new one. The dishwasher leaks, sometimes. The side-walk is usually shoveled and salted in the winter.

7. Office Staff - Not there when we need them. They do not live on the property and do not return phone calls in a timely matter. They are also not empowered to help you with questions about rent payments and such. There is actually a separate office that manages Mountain Village, and several other properties.

8. Overall - The apartments look good, on the outside, but it is an unpleasant, and over-priced place to live. They will offer you a 15 month lease, at a discounted rate. I took the 15 month lease, and seriously regretting it, because I do not want to stay here any longer than I possibly have to.

9. Recommendation - I will not and do not recommend Mountain Village to anyone. Please, if you are looking at apartments, choose a place other than Mountain Village, or better yet consider purchasing a home. CHOOSE NOT TO LIVE HERE, AND DO NOT TAKE A 15 MONTH LEASE!!!

Wow. Why on Earth did you agree to live here? These seem like things one would notice before signing a lease. It's simply a mathematical impossibility that you failed to notice all of this.

If you had the opportunity to buy a house why would you move into an apartment?

1)Parking-The parking lot is extremely well-lit, I don't know which one you were walking in. Parking outside can be a hassle sometimes.

2)Noise-What apartment building is sound-proof and quiet? None.... You have to expect a little noise living in an apartment. You don't have everything.. it's not perfect.

3)Grounds-They can't cut down the trees just because you can't see the city.

4)Safety-It is dark by the garbage area, but just take it out at a different time of day if that is a problem for you. I just took it out in the morning or when I got home from work.

5)Construction-If you didn't like the ceiling to floor mirrors why consider living there. There are apartments with your own washer and dryer, they just cost a little more. Some of these "problems" are things you should have noticed before agreeing to sign a lease. Can't blame Mountain Village for some of your errors.

6)Maintenace-They gave you a new refrigerator when it broke and the side-walk is usually shoveled in the winter, what more could you ask for in the maintenace aspect.

7)Office Staff-They don't live onsite but they are in the office. Alot of times even if the office closed, Corine is there late. I find the office and maintenance staff for the most part to be helpful. Bryce Styza actually manages a few other complexes and there a central office.

8)Overall-For what you pay and what you get is an awesome deal. It is close to downtown, close to 94, it's a pretty central location.

I have lived here for three years and just signed my lease for another year. In my opinion there aren't any other apartments that you can compare with Mountain Village. I would recommend it to anyone.
