Nice Home Away From Home

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I moved into Mountain Village in November of 2006, and live there during the week while working in the area, traveling home to be with my family on (most) weekends.
The Mountain Village staff was business-like and pleasant upon initial inquiry, and has remained that way through all interactions since. Maintaining a good Renter-Management relationship requires the Renter to do his or her part. I always pay my rent early (it's the same amount whether 3 days early or on the date, so why not avoid the rush'), make no noise that can be heard outside the apartment, take out my trash regularly, etc. There really aren't any negatives that I can report in my time here. Corine in the office greets me by name, knows my wife and children from their visits here, and often inquires about them.
The staff publishes a glossy multi-page newsletter periodically, organizes activities for the residents, holds balcony decorating contest in season, and generally does everything they should to make the place feel like home.
The few maintenance requests I have had have been handled the same day in each case, with a nice note left by the maintenance person explaining what was found (or not found).
Since I live on the top floor of my building, the elevator is important to me, and I have only had to use the stairs once when I came home for lunch, and the scheduled maintenance to the elevator (which was actually a having a guy hand-polish the stainless-steel walls of the car!) had been posted for a week ahead of time, as is the staff's good practice for all parking lot, garage (yes, heated underground garage, which is extremely nice in winter so you only scrape car windows leaving work in the evening) building, and other maintenance and cleaning.
Heat is free, water is free, you only pay for electricity. You get 7 TV channels W/O cable, if you're pressed for cash or just don't want cable.
I don't know what to say to the few negative reports in here, other than I would guess the resident played a part in the experience (you know how some people are, they'd complain about the taste of free beer). Pay your rent on time, keep the noise down, and enjoy a safe, clean, quiet, well-kept location close to downtown, the hospital (maybe a negative for some), Carroll College, and the Fox River.
I'm glad to call Mountain Village my home away from home, and have recommended it to others moving into the area.
