Really gone down hill

Words cannot fully express my distaste for Brunswick Apartments, particularly with management. If you think you should be able to reach management during office hours, don't live here. If you think that maintenance of apartments is important, don't live here. The grounds and aparments are poorly maintained and ,in places, the lighting is not sufficient at all--I usually didn't go outside at night by myself. When I moved out, I found my air conditioner to be fully lined with black mold--explaining my strange illnesses during my stay there. The railings along the stairs and the fences aren't painted and they are rotting down. My front door was in desperate need of a new coat of paint. On the frame around my door, you could see where the door had been previously kicked in. There is no insulation underneath the apartments, so during the winter, the floor would get down to around 40-45 degrees. If you have an issue, don't expect to be able to reach the office during normal business hours--they are NEVER there. And, the rare time that they actually are in the office, they will completely ignore phone calls and/or never return calls from voicemails. They stand outside the office smoking and talking and completely ignoring tenants, as well as potential tenants. I have also witnessed management shopping at Wal-Mart during the day or sitting outside of their apartment drinking beer and BSing. If you ever do get someone to answer the phone, don't expect your concerns to be addressed promptly. They seem to always have '5 apartments to get to' before yours--so your issue is never addressed. Don't expect utility bills to arrive in a timely manner either--sometimes it would be 2-3 months before I would get a utility bill and then I would receive multiple bills at once. During my stay, I always paid my bills promptly and in a timely manner--when I moved out, I received a letter requesting the $600 that I owed for unpaid rent and utility bills and late fees. I wrote a letter in response pointing out that I have record of all of my paid bills and refusing to pay any more and requesting the return of my deposit--I haven't heard anything from them since and it has been nearly 4 weeks (still no check in-hand). While they do have a pretty leniant pet policy, they do not enforce or encourage cleaning up after your pets--there is dog poop EVERYWHERE in the grassy areas around the apartments. If you really need a place to live, the rent is pretty cheap and the apartments aren't THAT bad--if you can tolerate the laziness and absence of management and the maintenance crew.
