Resident 2004 - 2005

7/27/2005

I left Summerville Dec. 2004 and was very unhappy to do so, expecting the area to be a dream. I was sadly mistaken. The complex looks nice and since new you would think everything worked well and there wouldn't be problems. I had nothing but problems from DAY ONE. I'll elaborate. I moved in on July, 2004 and I have a son and a small dog. Well, after driving all day and unloading many things, my son and I went to the grocery store to get some food and drinks, leaving my dog there. We hadn't been gone 30 minutes (mind you, I'd picked the keys up earlier in the day) when I get a phone call from the management saying there was a problem. Oh, my...what in the world?? Well, my dog, having a bit of anxiety being in a strange place, was barking. I mean, for 30 minutes of barking a complaint is lodged in the middle of a weekday?? That was my first indication. The manager who called me was rude, told me I may have to leave because of this, etc. This incident was never repeated as my dog got acclimated pretty quickly. It really made me angry and I let them know that I did NOT appreciate being called after moving in 2 hours before with a threat over a complaint!!!

The second big issue I had was the noise factor. I inquired about sound-proofing between floors before I moved in and was assured there were no problems. Well, my upstairs neighbors don't look like elephants, but it sure did sound like a whole herd lived there! Every night I was totally stressed because the slightest noise is audible below.

The third issue I had was the staff and their "professionalism". I felt that pretty much anyone with the deposits was allowed to move in (and many were not what I would consider to be good neighbors) and bring along their dogs of varying sizes and breeds (and many didn't conform with the breed types accepted). If I ever had a problem and addressed it to the management...I got the indifferent attitude that I've noticed others have complained about.

The last and most critical complaint I had about this place was that I had mold growing in several areas of the apartment which caused me to have some pretty serious and irritating medical conditions. The maintenance guys thought they'd cleaned it up, but it came right back. Turns out the building was built so crappy that the apt. above had a water leak that ran down the walls to my place! Well, 3 months of dealing with the noise, the neighbors, and the mold, I was ready to call it quits, and did. But, even with the mold issue, I would have had to shell out hundreds of dollars to get the air tested for allergens or spores or whatever and they told me it still wouldn't enable me to break my lease. So I broke it anyway and paid for 2.5 months rent to get out of there. Good riddance!

Oh, and another thing....many of the teenagers in that area were not very well supervised. Many nights they would gather right outside my place to chat and yell and play. Very annoying for a working mother who's own child would NEVER have been allowed to do such a thing. I feared for my son with the aggressiveness of some of the young women in the area. Unreal!

Oh, and I also had issue with the fact that I came home one day to find maintenance crew in my bathroom taking the vanity out and replacing it with a much smaller one! No phone call, no notice, no nothing! Then they wanted to replace my brand new stove with another brand new stove....made no sense at all to me.

And here's one more item of note. The outside lighting fee is tacked on to your monthly bill. Each resident has to pay like $5 to keep the security and decorative lights on. That's a crock. For the amount of rent paid and the high bills there, THEY can pay for their own lighting! This is not disclosed when you sign the lease...shows up on your bill.

For such a pretty place from the outside, it has untold issues within and I would avoid living there like the plague!!! Cornerstone properties really needs to examine their construction plans before putting up another place like this!
