Resident 2003 - 2004

6/7/2004

This message is long, but have patience because this is the most accurate and thorough inside scoop you will receive about Ridgeview.

Parking
Yes, the parking situation is the nightmare that everyone professes it to be. I too have been towed from my own complex and had my vehicle damaged in the process. After contacting Assured Towing, they told me that since I had no proof they damaged my vehicle there was nothing they could do. Also, if you plan to come by and view the apartments don't plan on parking in the spot reserved for you, the "Future Resident Parking" spot, because they are often times filled with employee vehicles, namely the owner of a small green pick-up. It may seem to be a trivial matter, however it illuminates the general, "I don't give a @#$%" attitude of the staff. Ironically enough, parking tensions have eased because there has been such a great exodus of disgruntled residents and the apartment complex's occupancy rate has plummeted.

Noise
Though other posts complained of noise issues, this is one of the few areas where I have been satisfied. My building is and always has been quite. Therefore, I would say that it must be a building to building case and that I am sure you find that variable present in any apartment complex. I can't believe I actually defended Ridgeview, however don't worry it doesn't happen often.

Grounds
The grounds are very pretty, as there is plenty of green to be had. My apartment patio looks out over a grassy area that is highlighted by trees. However, there are two issues. First, don't get a first floor apartment as I have, because everytime the landscaping crew comes through to mow, they blow all of their grass clippings onto my porch making it impossible to keep a clean patio. Each time I have guests over I am required to wipe down all of my grass encrusted furniture. Speaking of the landscaping, they uilize large riding mowers, whose large tires leaves tracks through the grass. So the grounds look as if the monster truck Bigfoot came through and did dougnuts in the grass. I suppose, however that in America I should be accustomed to the tradeoff between efficency and quality. Speaking of tradeoffs, if there were not so much green, there would be more room for parking.

Safety
I do like the fact that each unit has an alarm and in general the facilities are well lit. At one point several months ago, there were a string of crimes commited, ranging from car stereos stolen to apartments broken into. My neighbor came out one morning and his car was on blocks because someone had come in and stolen his tires and rims. I must note that these incidents I mention can not directly be linked to any negligence on the part of Ridgeview. However, I mention it because it does make me feel less safe to live here and because I have never lived in an apartment complex that was the victim of so much crime.

Construction
The interiors are amazing. Everytime I have guests come over they are baffled by the size and design of my apartment. However, I have two comments in the realm of construction. First, it is clear that the parking situation was not correctly calculated in the design or construction. Second, we were sold on the fact that our apartment was to have stainless steel kitchen appliances. To our suprise when we moved in, we had no stainless steel appliances. No concession was offered on our rent and the reason given was that due to a construction error the fridges would not fit into the cabinet space.

Maintenance
This is the only good thing Ridgeview has going for them. The maintenace staff is professional, courteous, timely, and dependable. Since, I can't mention names, I would suggest that they let the "Harley ridding maintenace man" run this whole place, seeing that he could probably do a better job.

Staff
I saved the best for last. I mentioned earlier that a "I don't give a &*%@" attitude permeates from the staff. Though the future resident parking violation is one example, I have others. When I was towed, I was upset since I did not know if my vehicle had been stolen or not. I called the office to obtain the name and number of the towing company to verify if my vehicle had been towed or not. The response I received was this, "We use Assured Towing, I don't have the number in front of me but you can just look it up in the phonebook." I was irate to say the least. On another day my girlfriend called to see what time the yoga class was to take place that day, and she spoke to the same incompetent person as I had, who replied to her, "I don't know" and then was unwilling to get out of her chair and look. Ridgeview hires temps that just don't care. However, it is not just the temps it is the manager that was unwilling to no longer employ the women that was so rude to my girlfried and I. However, it is not just the manager, it is the corporate offices that don't care as I have filled out their surveys and requested to be contacted about issues I have, yet I have never been contacted.

In brief, this place has so much potential from the floorplans to the wonderful amenities, but don't let that fool you. The execution of the poorly guided staff is enough to cut through the smoke and mirrors of this place.
Why do we still live here? They offered us a lease term that I could not get anywhere else and because of the fact that we are moving out of state soon, I decided to stay here rather than having to break a lease. Let me be clear, we stayed becuase we had to, not because we wanted to.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have.
