Resident 2011 - 2013

8/1/2013

I lived here from 11/11 until 01/13 and had a good experience as far as apartments go. My 2 bedroom pad faced the railroad tracks, and due to the nearby intersection you will definitely hear the train whistle blow before they pass, every time. The place was very well insulated though, so with the windows and balcony door closed it's not that bad. It never woke me up, but it probably would if you are a light sleeper (just a heads up). The place was $50 bucks cheaper ($735) for facing the tracks though, so that's a plus (I'm cheap like that). The neighbors were well behaved. I never knew any of them, but they never bothered me. The nearby neighborhood next door is mostly low income housing, but it was never an issue, and there are really tall bushes and the train tracks between the complex and them. I used to walk to the small convenience store a few blocks away late at night when I wanted a 6-pack, and never once got bothered by anyone. So don't be afraid of the poor folks next door. :) The couple of times I needed minor maintenance stuff Steve came by the same day. It's a privately owned complex, so they do keep the place up, and the grounds are immaculate. My place came with new carpet, and they told me they expect to get 6 years out of it, so be careful and don't be a pig. The kitchen and bathroom had this fairly nice stone tile in it, not the cheap vinyl most places have (nice touch), and the cabinetry is nice too (all lacquered and shiny). The appliances were a little older, but not in bad shape and looked good. The living room, and both bedrooms, had ceiling fans with lights. Large walk-in in the the big bedroom, and a small closet with a regular door (not the sliding doors) in the smaller one. Also another small closet in the dining area. In my 2 bedroom place there were full sized laundry hookups in the big storage closet out on the balcony, as well as a laundry room at the end of the building. They do have night patrol guys that walk around (or drive the golf cart) all night. One had face tattoos, but he seemed okay, just talks on his cell phone all night as he makes his rounds (he must have an unlimited minutes plan). No problems parking, and the office staff were good folks. The old manager Kelli was cool, but moved on mid-2012 after 4 years there. The assistant manager, an older lady (I forget her name), was nice and always said hey when she'd stop by her grandkids place next door to me downstairs. I met the new manager a few times, and she seemed nice enough, but I didn't really know her. One cool thing that happened.. One night toward the end of my time there I went to get my laundry at 2am, forgot my keys (the laundry room has a push button combo lock thing), and locked myself out.. I flagged down the night patrol guy who called the assistance manager (management lives on-site), and she came over and let me back in. It cost me $35 bucks, but it was a small price to pay for not having to sleep on the front step that night. :) When move out time came I made sure to clean the place really well, so they only held back the $25 (much cheaper than it would have cost me to hire someone!) for carpet cleaning (they tell you this the first day), plus another $7 bucks for light cleaning. I think the light cleaning charge was to mop the kitchen (moving day I found out my sponge mop had dried out solid as a rock, so I couldn't (I'm a bachelor)). Overall not bad. Also, and another big plus, in the 14 months I lived there I never saw a single bug in my apartment. They do have pest control come by once a week if you want or need it, but I didn't need it. So.. I think it's as nice as one could expect for apartment living an average working stiff can afford.
