Resident 2014 - 2015

tl;dr All in all, it's apartment living. And if we weren't buying a house, we'd still be here! The good: We've been living in this apartment community since April 2014. The complex is in great shape and the owners clearly put in the money and effort to keep everything clean and in good repair. They even pressure wash the walkways, which I've literally never seen happen at any apartment complex I've lived in. Service requests are taken care of quickly - we've had to call after hours three times (once for a scare with me turning the heater on the wrong setting and twice because the A/C backed up), and the guys never complain and always come within an hour. David I know by name because he seems to always draw the short straw on our apartment! He's fantastic - no complaints about the quality or timeliness of service. I like the apartment - it's been updated nicely in the last few years and has granite and stainless steel appliances. The soundproofing is second-to-none. I hear almost nothing (although maybe that's because we have a top floor apartment?). I'm amazed at how little sound gets between floors - we've actually heard our neighbors more when opening windows or the porch door than through the walls or floors. Typically all we get are floor vibrations to indicate noise is being made. The ladies in the front office (Karly in particular) have been consistently lovely to interact with. I have lost track of time on more than one occasion chatting up there. In general, I've been really happy with the community and feel safe here. We have had to leave town for extended periods a handful of times, and when we do the front office makes a point of keeping an eye on our cars for break-ins. The bad: The rent increases can be pretty steep (as with many apartments), so I would recommend signing a lease and locking in your initial price for as long as you are comfortable. Parking can be a real bear. In some parts of the parking lot, the lines have been drawn for what I can only assume are Fiat/Smart Car parking only. People still try to squeeze in, but I've learned my lesson - I got a pretty nasty ding from someone when parking in a small space so now (even if I have to hike to get to my apartment) I park in the regular size spots. The quality of neighbors is not always great. We've had some nice ones, we've had some noisy ones, and we've had some questionable ones (who sat in their car with the seats really low and drank/did drugs/smoked - they are gone now). We've been (wrongly, as we later discovered) accused of noise complaints due to other noisy neighbors. I suspect - although I'm not sure - that the generally unfavorable neighbors have received enough complaints that their respective leases were not renewed. For whatever reason, bad neighbors always seem to make a timely exit.
