Resident 2010 - 2011

5/18/2011

1. Security: There is absolutely no security in or around the building. The gate was installed to keep non-residents out but it is ALWAYS propped open. When walking into the building from the garage, all the doors with the key-fob entrance are either held open with a trashcan or they are broken at the hinge, which makes them hang open. The doors that lead to the outdoor stairs (by Red Mango) are always left open as well and these face major streets. This allows absolutely ANYONE to get into the building/garage. At least seven cars were broken into on one night as well as an apartment getting trashed. The instances were reported to the police but the Lofts did NOTHING to help the investigation. The Lofts could have sent out an email asking residents if they heard/saw anything that night or give an incentive to come forward. The amount of property that was damaged was a felony offense but every single time I talked to the Lofts about it they did not want to acknowledge that it happened. Therefore, the investigation was closed because there was a lack of HELP FROM THE LOFTS and a lack of information to charge anyone with the damage. I was told that cameras were being installed in the garage and throughout the building but this never happened. There was a TON of damage in my hall alone (broken glass, smashed exit signs, etc.) and this could only aid the Lofts in finding out who was damaging the building. CAMERAS WERE NEVER INSTALLED. 2. Office Staff: The people that work at the front desk are TRAINED to say that the management is not there. They always ask why you are calling and then proceed to say that management is off site, at lunch, not in right now, will be back later, etc. On the rare occasion that I see management, they are nervous to talk to residents and he NEVER thoroughly answers the question. The managers never follow through with what they say they are going to do. 3. Mail system: I never figured out what the technical problem was with the mail at the Lofts but I had many things that were lost/I never got a package slip for. For example, I received a package and I NEVER got a slip for it in my mailbox but it was in the room with all the packages in the office for over three weeks. I also had a certificate that was in the mail over Christmas Break and upon return it was not in my mailbox. I had to pay money to have another one sent to the Lofts and their records showed that it reached the destination (the Lofts) the first time. There were many other problems. 4. Noise: THE FIRE ALARMS WENT OFF ALL THE TIME!!!!! My roommate and I were trained to stay in our beds or our room when the alarm went off because we knew it would eventually turn off. This is not safe for any resident that lives at the Lofts. There was a day where the alarm went off every two minutes and I am not exaggerating. Most recently, when there was an ACTUAL FIRE over by Arctic Wolf, all the residents were out on their balcony because the alarm was going off for so long. People were out there because it was less noisy outside by the pool than in the building. People waited on their balcony instead of leaving to go outside. This is a way for someone to get killed or seriously injured. Also, we pay extra money to look out on the main pool. The pool was completely drained multiple times throughout the year. The stone around the pool was also torn up without warning and it was so loud I had to move to my closet to sleep (starting every morning at 7:30 AM) for weeks. We were never warned that the pool was going to be under drastic changes and it was SO ANNOYING. This building is a little over two years old there shouldn t be an extensive problem with these various things. 5. Internet/Cable: The cable went out ALL the time for days at a time. My roommate had to physically connect to the internet with a cable because her room got no signal. The phone signal that the building receives is minimal and phone conversations would cut out all the time.
