Resident 2014 - 2015

2/19/2015

If I could rate this zero stars I would!! I'm a tenant at Oak Lawn Heights. I was working with Elliot while I was still in Boston to secure this apartment, he has since been fired I think. I am a disabled veteran attending the Art Institutes In Dallas. My lease was set to begin Sept 22, I called a few days prior to let him know that I would be arriving two days late as I was driving from Boston and was having car trouble. I arrived around 1pm on the 24th, and no one was in the office,I called several times with no response, I waited for two hours until Luis arrived. He was not expecting me, had no idea I was moving in and was about to put me in a different apartment. My apartment wasn't ready he said, he asked if i could go stay with friends or at a hotel?! Then he offered an unfurnished model for me and my cats to stay in while they finished the apartment. Two days later he told me it would be ready at 2pm. I went food shopping and was ready to move in, it still wasn't finished. I have asked twice to have my garbage disposal looked at because it sounds like there is a piece of metal in it and i was afraid to use it or burn out the motor. I have no idea what's happening with that. When I moved in I cried, I took pictures of what they deemed acceptable, it's deplorable. Rotten and exposed baseboards, warped bathroom and kitchen cabinets, which I had them come back twice to fix. Once they put up a rusty piece of metal and sort of painted over it. I took pictures, took it off and ask them to fix it properly or replace it. A piece of wood was put on, but I had to paint it and put the toilet paper holder back on myself. I also had asked Elliot (before I moved 1500 miles to be here) to tell them not to paint over the white that was here from the previous tenant and they did anyways. Then came the ants all over my cats food. Then there were the leaks in my kitchen cabinets with watery paint from the upstairs unit, not once but twice! The cockroaches is where I draw the line- I have killed at least 5 cockroaches the size of my thumb, showed them to the maintenance workers who said they would tell Luis. Nothing- no response. I have given the girl Tiffany in the office another bag of the dead ones as she asked to prove that I was indeed having a pest issue. Since I have been here I've been killing cockroaches in my apartment every day. The final straw was when I was taking a bath in the tub the other night and one crawled out of the faucet and into my bath water! I am here in Dallas to go to school, I need to do a lot of home work. So you can imagine my frustration when there is very loud and obnoxious work being done after hours and on weekends. It is so disrupting I have recordings of it echoing through my apartment. I have had to leave my apartment several times to find a quiet place to study. Today when I went in to the office I got another shrug and a complacent response to my complaint. The girl in the office suggested I break my lease and move elsewhere?! But I would have to pay$650 to do so. So I should be inconvenienced further? I'm supposed to find another place I can afford, pack, move, paint and decorate that place as well? I have worked in Beverly Hills Real Estate, never in my wildest dreams could I imagine telling a client to go move somewhere else without doing my absolute best to correct the problems. I'm sure Presidium prides itself on it's properties and their staff, so that is why I am confused at the attitude towards all of the issues I have experienced in one month of living here. I met with Kim from Corporate, she pretended to care about what was going on here, but now cannot return an email or phone call. Let's not forget about the resident who was held up at gunpoint here within our "locked" community.. That makes me feel safe. Since writing this original review, I have had a leak in my bedroom, an inexperienced handy man doing electric work on a blown outlet who "forgot" to turn off the breaker and arched the electricity. I have had to call the city to complain about the rust in our water and file a formal complaint. Save yourself the headache, do not rent from this company!!!
