Resident 2005 - 2007

A place with more pros than cons--and we'd live there again

I've gotta say--the things people said on this website about the Reserve at White Rock just about gave me a panic attack! Especially when my husband and I had flown down to Dallas in preparation for our move from Baltimore, already put down our deposit and had fallen in love with the place! You'll fall in love with the floorplans, the attached garages (in the townhomes), the proximity to lovely White Rock Lake and downtown and the pet friendliness of the place! Luckily, there was a person who gave their email address on here, and after emailing her my concerns, she put them to rest, and I'm sure glad she did. We LOVED living at the Reserve. Yes, it's got its positives and negatives, but you'll run into that anywhere. We met some great friends, we (including our dogs) had a lovely (and relatively safe--this IS Dallas, after all) place to live and had we not decided to buy a home, we'd still be living there. Yes, there are riff-raff, but overall the people are nice. The ladies in the office are generally nice, but Laura has got to be the laziest person I've ever met. Right before we left, they hired Cyril, who is probably the hardest working handyman I've ever seen. He was great and so nice! You'd ask him to do something, and he'd get it done very quickly! The pet friendliness was great too--although, I'm not sure how a few pit-bull-like dogs made the cut. One of our neighbors had an "English Stafforshire Terrier"--which to anyone looks/acts like a pitbull. However, the owner had him out very infrequently, luckily. The pet friendliness also attracts the naughty dog owners, so I would have to say that the "poo-problem" was sometimes an issue--however, I would have to blame the Reserve on some levels, b/c they were not always the best at making sure the bags were re-stocked. But, generally a call to the office would get this taken care of... A couple common sense things will make living here a pleasure: 1) Pay your rent on time. Half of the yahoos posting on here complain about eviction notices if their rent wasn't in by the 3rd. Duh--pay your rent on time, knucklehead. It's not that hard! 2) Put your rent check in the hand of someone working in the office. Don't use the slot. Again, common sense. 3) If you see someone doing something naughty (not picking up dog doo, running into the gate) report them. I was definitely a squeaky wheel for change, and I liked what happened when I reported things. Be pro-active--it's your neighborhood! Actually, I generally would accoste those who weren't picking up dog doo right away--no sense in being passive aggressive. 4) Your lease says if you have a problem and need something fixed, put it in writing. Don't depend on the ladies in the office (especially Laura) to remember every little thing--especially when they've got over 200 units! Read your lease--it's all in there. 5) Walk through your apartment with one of the leasing office ladies both before moving in and after moving out. Get a copy of the write-up of all the problems during your initial walk-through and keep it for your walk-out. Also, clean your apartment. Again, common sense! We got our full deposit back, with no problems. I guess the biggest complaint I would have about the Reserve was each time our lease was up and it was time to re-lease. They would totally jack up rent--and when you went to them asking for a (slight) decrease, knowing full well the teaser rates/specials they were offering newcomers, there was no budging. They've gotta make money--I understand that...but to hose those who pay their rent on time and were good tenants, I didn't understand why some type of discount couldn't have been given. If you are considering renting at the Reserve, and after reading all these testimonials are considering not, please feel free to email me at CelloGrrl@rocketmail.com (make the subject: Reserve at White Rock); I'd hate for you to have the same anxiety I did, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have! We loved it here, and are so glad we lived here! Again, positives and negatives with any place you go--but we'd rent here again in a heartbeat!
