Resident 2014 - 2015

7/26/2015

Ok, my husband and I have been living here for about five months now. When we first moved in we had a pretty major catastrophe when our ceiling fell in due to an untreated leak and the subsequent stomping about on the roof by people who were supposed to be fixing it. Another leak in one of the bedrooms also ruined a mattress. The office staff, however, were really great and helpful during that mess, and Laurie (hope I'm spelling that right) even went to the Walmart just around the corner and got us an air mattress for a couple of nights so we'd have something to sleep on. They offered to put us in another empty apartment as well, but it was easier for us to stay where all of our clothes and food were. It took a while for the manager to get back to us on moving us to a hotel but we did eventually get put in an extended stay hotel for a few days while the ceiling was being fixed. No problems with it since then. I'm sure that something like that is very uncommon, so my mentioning it is more to tell how the staff handled a big problem. Since then, I've not really had many complaints about the apartments. Noise level is pretty low, there are some noisy kids but they don't spend any time over by our building. People don't pick up after their pets enough. The place is old, so there are some things like gaps in the door, windows that don't open/stay open, and the like. The shower is annoying - because the building has a shared water heater it can and does fluctuate between freezing and scalding. We rented a newly remodeled apartment so the appliances, carpet, and faux hardwood flooring are all new and look pretty good. Valet trash is a blessing. Staff keeps you up to date on crimes in the area, which is great from a preparedness point of view. The general crime rate seems to be fairly low from what I've heard of. The area where I have to park my car is too far from our apartment (reserved spots aren't guaranteed to be near your place), and the walk to my apartment is poorly lit, so that's kind of scary. Location is pretty good for us. There're grocery stores right around the corner, a movie theater, decent drive to the Galleria or Memorial City Mall, and not too bad a drive to the museum district either. We're moving soon to a nicer apartment in a better area, but overall I think Castlewood has been good for the rent.
