Resident 2012 - 2015

1/29/2015

My husband and I have lived in these apartments since 2012. First in separate apartments (his a studio, mine a 1 bd/bath). We had zero problems this first year, and thought the place was amazing - definitely a step up from where I had lived previously in Irving. Rent was affordable, and the place was decent. Other than having to lug everything to the laundry room every week (also, perverts - I lost a lot of underwear that year), it wasn't bad. Then we married and combined our apartments into one. Not only were we rushed to move in (given about a week per apartment to move and clean), we also experienced a lot of problems in our new, 2-bedroom apartment. First off, when we moved in, we realized that it was INFESTED with cockroaches. They had to give us a new fridge because of the roach carcasses in the freezer vents. We lived with these nasty buggers, doing all we could to get rid of them ourselves and enduring week after week of pesticide spraying, for nearly 3 months. The apartments seemed concerned for awhile, but then didn't seem to care beyond "oh, we'll send someone out." half the time, there was no evidence of anyone having sprayed our apartment (no note, etc.). We finally figured out that the bugs were living in one particular wall, and once we covered up the outlets on that wall, no more problems. Still, moving into an apartment with roaches on the ceiling was a horrible omen we should have listened to. The apartment itself was a MESS. There were holes in the walls, and our linoleum was peeling up. The office promised to fix the holes, but never did. They did have a maintenance guy come fix the floor, but it peeled up again after about 6 months. They are now doing something about it - and our rent was raised a huge amount, too, coincidentally. The carpet wasn't much better. Sure, it was new, but obviously a rush job with tacks exposed and some of it was improperly laid next to the linoleum, so it's now lifting and fraying. Since then, we've had two water leaks (one for which they tried to blame us), and our shower only occasionally works (the faucet that you turn for hot water often gets lose and they can't seem to fix it, so if you like hot water, you need to keep a screwdriver in the shower for constant tightening). We also had a crack in our wall the size of my finger (width-wise) brought on by the earthquakes (we think). When it was finally patched, the guy said he couldn't paint anything unless we moved everything off the entire wall (the crack was in the corner) because otherwise the paint might not match. WHAT? So, at the moment, we have a big, sandy patch running from floor to ceiling in the corner of our wall. No one told us about the paint, either, by the way, until after he had left. There were no plans to paint it. It just looks like wet sand smeared on my wall. The complex, once quiet, is no longer. We have people talking loudly underneath our windows at all hours, doors slam constantly, we listen to our neighbors' TVs frequently, people like to play loud music in the parking lot everyday. Couple that with living across from the post office and its constant noise and you have a very noisy living area. The apartments recently had to have work done in the attics, and didn't warn the buildings, so all that was heard were huge, wall-shaking, picture-rattling bangs. For that, I would have appreciated a warning. As someone already mentioned, the sprinklers are ridiculous - they water everything but the lawn, and heaven help you if you need to go out while they're on. They installed dog stations, but no trashcans. People still don't pick up after their animals. Our biggest complaint is the kitchen, however. It is barely 2 feet wide with the appliances. It's a galley-style, which is fine, but there is literally no counter space. There is one drawer, and three and a half cabinets, so if you like to cook and actually have a kitchen's worth of pots and pans - good luck. The stove is ancient and won't keep a consistent temperature (another thing they were supposed to fix and never did). Our faucet was never caulked, so it slides around all over the place. We've made do with it all, only to have an exorbitant rent raise. Seriously, it is NOT worth the money they want. The area has also become unsafe. My husband and I both had our cars broken into last year. Domino's won't deliver here after dark, because they've had drivers assaulted and mugged twice at neighboring complexes. There was a notice up about a car fire for awhile, with a $5k reward for information leading to the arsonist. Our neighbor has had furniture stolen from his patio downstairs, many of which, in the lower apartments, do not have any kind of railing or fence around them. We originally fell in love with the property and stayed here because we loved the management. But since they were sold to a new company, management has little power left and it's clear the new company doesn't care about their tenants, only their bottom line. While we weren't anticipating moving so soon, we most certainly will be. All in all, it's time to say goodbye and no, I wouldn't recommend this complex to anyone, let alone someone I cared about.
