Resident ā€¢ 2002 - 2003

11/28/2003

This complex was an utter mess. The landscaping is disgusting (ie non-existent), but that is the least of the troubles. My roommate and I were constantly putting in maintenance requests that were ignored for at least a week. Nearly every appliance in our kitchen broke at some point, and they would come out and do some sort of temporary fix. Then, a month later the same problem would occur. This happened to the dishwasher six times before they finally replaced it.
We had a horrendous ant problem, and despite many calls to management, including the apartment manager herself, they never did do anything about it. She actually suggested that I should go and buy ant poison and put it around the doorways! What was I paying them for?
Perhaps one of the most disturbing problems was how they handled the broken hot water heater upstairs. That apartment was vacant at the time, and the reason the problem was discovered is that my roommate noticed a water stain forming in her bathroom ceiling. She called the apartment office that morning to report the problem, and when she returned from work that night, nothing had been done. It was not until she called emergency maintenance that night that anything was done. As mentioned before, the problem was a broken hot water heater that flooded the upstairs apartment and caused water damage in my roommateĀ“s bathroom. The management seemed completely unconcerned, given their slow response.
Well, they had to repair the bathroom ceiling in our apartment. I came home for lunch that day to find a key sitting the lock to my front door! Yes, thatĀ“s right, the painter had left the key in the lock and gone inside. Anyone could have stolen the key and been able to get into the apartment!
When I reported this to the management staff, they seemed unconcerned (as usual), and it was not until I raised a stink that they finally, begrudgingly, agreed to re-key the apartment.

One last scary story - The last day of my lease, I opened the door to take something to the trash only to find a man standing there. Apparently, he was looking to lease the apartment, and someone in the leasing office suggested he come up and take a look around. My lease ended at midnight; I was still the lessee. Thus, they never should have sent someone up to the apartment unescorted, without prior notification, and without my consent.
Bottom line, if my long rant hasnĀ“t convinced you, then just remember this - DO NOT RENT AN APARTMENT AT HIDDEN RIDGE!!!!
