Resident 2004 - 2014

I would like to start off by saying I've read many complaints about different apt complexes and some of them are kind of frivolous. It is for that reason that I have never commented on these types of reviews because many of those complaints are based on anecdotal evidence and are fairly situational. Having said that, I would like to express my opinion, which can be considered professional, about this apartment complex. I have lived here for 10 years. That's right, 10 years, which I hope is proof to anyone reading this that my complaints, which are based on recent changes, is not situational because the onerousness of these changes would be burdensome to ANY hard working person trying to do the right thing while living within their means. A recent commenter who wrote a bad review was questioned by someone asking 'why did you stay for more than 2 years if the place was so bad?' There's an easy answer for that; it didn't start out bad. Here are some of the changes that have occurred over the last few years. 1. Work out center eliminated 2. Playground demolished and never replaced 3. Due date for utility bill changed, without warning, from the 15th of the month to the 1st of the month when rent is due. 4. Outdoor items that used to be allowed on patios are no longer allowed. 5. Saturday office hours eliminated; only open 1st Saturday of the month (that's not mercenary at all {sarcasm}) 6. Packages larger than what your mailbox can hold are not allowed since the office will no longer accept them Now on to my specific problem. Changes # 3 and 5 play a part in making this situation even more untenable. When the due date for the electric bill changed, previous management considered our complaints based on monetary common sense. After paying such a large bill in the early part of the month (rent) most tenants do not have the funds to pay the large utility bill (electric paid through apt complex) until the middle of the month. So we were allowed to pay the electric bill by the 15th, no later, and shut offs could occur on the 16th. New management has decided to be heavy handed with the due date of the utilities and are charging the same late fee amount that they charge for rent plus the $15/day thereafter. The electric bill reads 5% late fee with that dollar amount, but that is ignored for the mercenary purposes of gouging more money. I've read some of the comments praising this complex. In my opinion, I believe they are solicited, especially after reading replies from 'Sierra Point Mngmt'. If the tactic is to continually charge late fees for an electric bill that cannot be paid so soon after paying rent, I am considering something that I've NEVER experienced in my 20+ years as an apartment dweller; that is allowing an eviction to take place because I CANNOT pay what I don't have. These finances will not magically appear simply because MacDonald Realty Group demands it! I faxed the payment for the electric bill plus the 5% fee on a Thursday morning. The 'eviction' notice was put on my door Friday stating eviction proceedings will begin Monday. With no access to management because of the eliminated Saturday office hours, I'm forced to wait until Monday to try and work out this problem. Now I may very well work out this situation with management and continue living here until my lease ends, but if they can change the rules with total disregard of the needs of their tenants it would be in the best interest of anyone considering Sierra Point as their next place of residence to seriously reconsider.
