Resident 2014 - 2015

2/17/2015

Would not recommend this place to anyone. While the staff is friendly and helpful, and they try to make it a fun and social community, there are too many cons to justify the high price of rent. Pros: Very close to campus (2 blocks). Controlled access garage parking (also a con, see below). It feels very safe, security cameras scattered around, you need a key to get in, and I believe they have an overnight security guard. For me, the fact that it was brand new is a pro (I was the first one to poop in my toilet which is nice). Private bathrooms for every bedroom. TV included in the living room. "Furnished". "Utilities included". Cons: 1.) The garage is WAY too small, they crammed in too many spaces. You almost die in a fiery accident every time you drive in here, it's just too small for two-way traffic. The way parking is set up, you have to pay an extra $10 a month to reserve a spot on your floor. If you live on the 4th floor, you live in the "penthouse" (for extra $10/month) and basically all you get is granite countertops in the kitchen and the ability to park in any spot on the 4th or 5th floors. If you don't live on 4th floor or you don't pay extra for a reserved spot, you have to park on the 5th floor and up. It takes FOREVER to get up there. 2.) Everything was built very cheaply and in a hurry, if you've read other reviews you know about the unfinished construction at move-in. In a couple years this place is going to start falling apart. The floors (I think they are fake wood) scratch so easily from just walking on them, we're probably not going to get our security deposit back. 3.) SO NOISY. The walls are so thin. If you have a pool-view unit you will be able to hear the conversations of everyone down there through the cheap windows. Every bedroom has a hole in the wall above the door with grates in it, I guess it's a vent but I have no idea what purpose it serves. You can hear everything that goes on in the living room/kitchen. Makes it impossible to fall asleep if your roommate wants to watch a movie, cook, or talk to a friend. 4.) SO EXPENSIVE. They say that utilities are included in your rent, and they are, but only $30/month of electricity per bed is covered in rent. If one of your roommates leaves their bathroom light on all day, and causes your unit to go over the cap, you're stuck paying a portion of the extra bill. For this much money per month (I pay $615), you would expect a well built, top of the line unit. 5.) It is "furnished", but barely. There is no table in the awkwardly huge empty space in the kitchen, and the stools are crammed next to the counter with no room to do anything. Definitely not enough storage for clothes and books in your bedroom, and definitely not enough storage in the kitchen. No pantry, only 2 small drawers, and not enough cabinets. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone. The management, office, and maintenance staff are all very friendly and helpful in my experience, but whoever designed and built it really messed up.
