Resident 2005 - 2007

9/14/2009

I lived at the Reserve at Potomac Yard for 2 years and would still be there if I hadn't purchased a condo! After visiting a friend who lived in an amazingly large two-bedroom that she and her roommate loved, my boyfriend and I rented one of the biggest one-bedrooms, which was more than enough space for us. I still have dreams about that HUGE walk-in closet!! I also loved the 2 entrances to the bathroom and the huge countertop and tub. My apartment was a 2nd floor unit in the 200 building and had a view of the gazebo, which was great! The balcony was a great size for a little table and chairs, and felt private and quiet. As for the community, I have no complaints. I regularly walked to the gym at night, to my friend's apartment at the far end of the 100 building, and even across the street to the shopping center, and I never felt unsafe or threatened by my surroundings. I was always careful not to leave valuables in my car at night (hello...we live in a metropolitan area, and I still do this in my gated underground garage at my new place), and never had any problems. You absolutely can't beat the convenience of having Target, Shoppers, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, TJ Maxx, restaurants, a movie theater, etc. right across the street, and the cab ride to the Reagan airport is ridiculously short and cheap! Maintenance was always quick to respond, courteous, and thorough, and the office staff was always friendly and responsive--as a homeowner who now has to figure things out for herself, I really miss them all! I was always seeing the maintenance and groundskeeping crew out cleaning and touching up paint, and could tell that they really took pride in the appearance of the community. I spent many summer days at the beautifully well-maintained pool, and even though it is a large community, there were always lounge chairs available. Aside from occasionally hearing my upstairs neighbors, who were heavy walkers, I can't think of a single thing to complain about. And as others have mentioned, that is just a part of apartment living, not to mention condo living! (My new upstairs neighbors sound like they are throwing grand pianos around all day long, and I'm stuck with them until one of us sells...but that's another story.) If you are super-sensitive to noise, go for a top floor unit, but also keep in mind that no matter where you live, you're not getting absolute quiet in an apartment/condo building! To summarize...this community offers generously sized floorplans, huge closets, friendly staff, and an exceptionally convenient location. I have recommended that many apartment-hunting friends and acquaintances include Potomac Yard in their apartment search, and will continue to do so!
