I recently moved here with my family from out of state. Having owned homes for all our lives, we were concerned about what apartment life would be like. I took tours of about a dozen different apartment complexes all surrounding Richmond and Huguenot apartments tops them all. If money is not a concern, then you can have your pick of whatever fine apartment dwelling you want. However, if you are looking for affordable, safe, convenient and comfortable, then you can't go wrong with Huguenot apts. The buildings have been here since the 1970s and they have done well to upkeep the units. When I inspected the apartment I was interested in, I was pleased to see fresh paint, new carpet and new french doors installed. The windows have been replaced in the last couple of years as well as the furnaces. Compared to all the other apartments I checked out, this one had the cleanest and most well-kept feel to it. The grounds are very well kept and maintenance responds immediately, if needed. The only concern I had upon moving in were some ants in my kitchen. I understand it's apartment living and the apartment is on a slab. I notified the front office and maintenance responded promptly and the ants are not an issue anymore. The maintenance staff are very friendly and professional. We do hear the tenants above us walking back and forth in their apartment. That would have to be my only major gripe. Apartments with sound resistant floors and walls were more than double in rent, so I can live with the sound. The front office is wonderful. I personally dealt with Elise who is very friendly, knowledgeable, and does her job very well. Out of all the apartments I called and visited, she was the only one who followed up to see if I was still interested. We also dealt with Brian, Michael, Chris, Juan and Michelle who are just as friendly. Anytime I run into any of the staff, they are friendly and courteous. I have spoken to many of the tenants that live here and have found out that most people have lived here a long time- 3, 5, 10, even a couple that's lived here for 26 years! There is very low turn over here. If you move into a new apartment, you get the new french doors. If you have lived here prior to the start of them installing the french doors, then your apartment will still have the sliding doors until you move out. Most of the units have the sliding doors so you can see that most of these people have been here a while. People seem to make it home by planting flowers and decorating their areas, which is nice. There's lots of kids that play on the playground. I love to see kids playing outside and not locked in a video game dungeon. This place is also dog friendly and my two dogs enjoy it. Parking is always plentiful. They also have social events for the tenants in the clubhouse and weekly coffee socials. This place is also super convenient to any store or destination you are looking for. You can even walk out the back entrance for Bruster's ice cream and several restaurants. I looked at all the reviews of other apartments, police reports, apartment ratings, and did a lot of research, before settling on Huguenot apartments. I wondered why the rating of Huguenot wasn't higher and saw that there hasn't been a review posted since 2011. I understand that new management took over and made tremendous changes overall. We have been very happy and satisfied with our stay here. It's truly a hidden gem!
