Resident 2008 - 2009

3/14/2009

In short: if you value your safety, possessions, and a quiet living environment, do NOT live here. My wife and I moved into the complex in May 2008 and recently left due to a solid fear for our safety. Examples: our neighbor across the street had his TV stolen just before Christmas - thankfully his wife and 2 kids were not home when they kicked in his locked back door. There were at least 2 times I had people I did not know SITTING on my car when I came home (driving my wife's car). A delivery person was robbed on my street. After we left (thankfully), there were 2 more break ins on my street. The cops were on our street constantly. In December, there were police (not security) outside once a week. For instance, during the issue where the TV was stolen, I asked an office what he suggested: he said there wasn't much you could do - the door they entered was locked, but the frame gave away. Locks won't help with that. My next door neighbors that moved in shortly after we did were nice. As I was moving out, I talked to the guy and he said that he and his girlfriend never leave their apartment empty - they're too concerned someone will break in. So if she needs to go out shopping, he stays home. Or if he wants to go hang out with the guys, she has to "defend" the place. They were serious, and I'm sure they're not the only ones with that idea. What else (if that's not enough). It's loud! If it's above 60 outside, you can be sure that there will be loud music and people hanging around outside being obnoxious. There's a reason St. John's Wood has security - I had to call them several times during my 10 month stay there. Another issue: the model looks nice. It's well painted, clean, etc. You see the model and go wow, this seems like a good price for this place. Then you sign the lease and move in, and it's nothing like what you were shown. Our apartment had paint on everything: woodwork, light switches, electric sockets, floor, etc. It looked horrible comparted to the model. When service was asked to fix the cosmetic issues, they said they couldn't fix one without fixing the rest. Oh, and the bugs. We had cockroaches. Usually one or two every couple weeks. I have *never* had cockroaches anywhere else I've lived. But they were there. In summary - go somewhere else. Rent in the west end: it's expensive, but you won't have to worry if you will get jumped in the parking lot or if someone will mess up your car. Nor will you be concerned that someone will break into your house. Skip this place.
