Resident 2011

9/9/2011

I've lived in these apartments for 7 months now, me and 3 roommates in a 3bed 2bath, top floor apartment right in the middle of the complex (N building). The first thing I was concerned about when we moved in was Noise due to these reviews, and aside from a few days where the maintenance crew were trimming and grinding trees fairly early in the morning, labor day weekend (understandable), and 4th of July weekend (understandable) noise has been a complete non-issue. For a while we weren't even sure if people were living below us, we just don't hear them. The only issues with noise we've had is from our own living-room to the smaller bedrooms, and the Washer/Dryer being right outside one of the bedrooms. Point being, if we're experiencing noise issues, it's from ourselves! The service from the staff has been prompt thus far, polar opposite of what I'm reading from the other reviews; Our door to the Washer/Dryer closet broke, fixed within 3 days. Our water Pressure in the kitchen one of the bathrooms was suddenly low, fixed within 2 days. The air conditioning in our apartment went out in 90 degree weather, we called it in late at night to the after-hours emergency number (contrary to some other reviews, that number worked just fine) but it was too dark to work on the outdoor unit, so the maintenance guy came by and fixed it at 5:30 AM as soon as the sun was up the very next morning. Good stuff! The management has always been in when I've gone looking for them, only gone for lunch as far as I've seen. They're always friendly, quick, and helpful. The paths are always clean, the grounds look nice, plenty of trees, shade, trimmed green grass. Some of the the paths aren't particularly well lit, but plenty visible at night none-the-less. I hear there is an issue with dog-droppings, I haven't experienced this first hand since I don't go romping around in the grass, but I wouldn't be surprised if it we're an issue. There isn't any droppings on the paths so that's good enough for me. As far as I'm concerned the only real issue that isn't just nit-picking is definitely the parking. The spaces are limited, the parking lots and spaces are narrow, people do park on the sides of the road making it even more narrow. Sometimes you'll just have to settle for a 3-5 minute walk to your apartment, it's not the end of the world, but it is a small gripe. The real issue to me is that the communal dumpsters are right on key corners of the parking lot and create huge visibility issues, especially given the driving ability of some of the people here... don't take the corners sharp/fast if you can't even see around them, people! Not going to lie, I've seen 2 car accidents since I've been here because one person is hugging the right side of the road near a garbage can (like they're supposed to) and another person takes a sharp left right into the front of the other car. On a random parking lot related side note, there are tons of friendly cats hanging out in the parking lot all the time. They often greet you at your car door, and follow you to your apartment. It's weird! But funny. But be aware that if your car is already really dusty, expect some cat prints on your window! But honestly, the location of the complex makes up for any little gripes I can come up with. Gage Blvd is absolutely loaded: fast food, sit-in restaurants, the movie theater, the mall, gas stations, grocery stores, major banks, a blockbuster. A huge amount of stuff is located within walking distance. Oh, and the interior of the actual apartments are nice too. Clean, non-scuffed hardwood; non-stained carpets, not torn up; spotless white walls. Some abnormalities, not really problems, are that there are no actual ceiling lights in the living room or the master bathroom, so be aware that you'll need lamps to light those rooms. Though there are wall sockets that are wired to light switches in those rooms, so lamps function as if they were regular light fixtures anyway, making it so you don't have to get up and mess with the lamp, god forbid! Also, my roommates and I all invested in some darker fabric curtains for our rooms, the stock metal ones just don't block enough sun in the morning.
