Resident 2014

12/11/2014

When we moved in, we had to pay a $450 non-refundable "redecorating fee" that was to cover things like pictures on the walls, carpet cleaning, repainting walls, oven drip pan replacement, general apartment cleaning upon moving out. At least, that's what we were told. No one would do a walk-through with us upon move-in. We did one by ourselves, but we obviously missed minor things, such as, a missing door shelf in the fridge, a slightly cracked toilet seat, a broken microwave light (out of 2 total). Upon moving out, an official inspection was done, and these things were pointed out and noted as if they were our fault. The guy completing the inspection kept saying, "Don't worry, you won't go over your deposit. You've kept the apartment in great shape! Don't worry about the nail holes from pictures. We prefer you don't try to fix them yourself because that actually costs us more when we have to fix your mistakes." A couple weeks later, we received a letter charging us over a $100 more for the aforementioned "damages" to the apartment. We tried to call the staff at the office, and the manager threatened to hang up on us, so we gave up that route. We tried to call the Seattle office, leaving many voice-mails without receiving a call back. A few neighbors in our building had complaints about the noisy neighbors that lived in the apartment below us, and some neighbors tried to directly talk to the tenants with no success. We asked management to step in on a few occasions, only to find out that management never even took note of our complaints (which is policy). We were told that pets were not allowed on the property, but many tenants still had cats and dogs (small and large breeds). We followed the books with everything we did, and we kept the apartment clean. We had our rent automatically deducted each month, so we were never late. We never had any complaints against us. We always tried to be friendly with the staff (office and maintenance), and we still got tricked in the end.
