Resident 2012

Do NOT--I repeat--DO NOT sign a lease at the Garden District!

Hurry up and find somewhere else before it's too late. Don't be fooled by the low rent upon comparison to other places. The Garden District is family owned, so when you get disappointed by the poor structure, dated and constantly malfunctioning appliances, dirty floors, thin walls, and all together crappiness of the apartments, you will have no one to complain to except for the office managers, who do absolutely nothing to fix anything. The maintenance staff is very friendly, but they are mostly young and inexperienced. When something needs to be fixed, they simply "bandaid fix" it by just covering up the underlying problem. The outside of the apartments are extremely pretty upon first glance, but I guarantee that's all the owner cares about--the outside. Don't be fooled by the lovely model. When we first got our furnished apartment, the end tables were run down and chipping, the dining room table had a large crack (that they hid by turning it towards the wall), and the faux suede couch had stains on it. They promised to replace them all because they had a new shipment of furniture coming in--but here it is, 10 months later, and we're stuck with the chipping, cracking, stained furniture we got when we first moved in. The carpets are dirty, and obviously for high traffic. However clean they may look, if you walk barefoot throughout the house ONCE, the bottoms of your feet turning black is inevitable. The floor in my room creaks with every step I make. It's above the living room, and it disturbs my roommate on the bottom floor. Also, every time either me or my other upstairs roommate flush the toilet, a loud WOOSHing noise is made in the living room, which is super embarrassing when company is over. BUT!!!!!! The parking is amazing. So go ahead and sign your lease if that's all you look for in an apartment. Sign your 13-month lease here, and you'll begin to regret it the first week of living in one of these awful apartments.
