Resident 2013 - 2014

7/22/2014

When we came to Stoney Brook things were great, Doug was extremely friendly and the place was very nice. The guys that keep up the lawn were amazing always working hard and do a beautiful job. When we first got into the apartment I noticed the flooring in the main bathroom was bubbled in the middle and I let Doug know so that they could come and have someone look at it because I didn't want to risk getting water under it and becoming a bigger issue. Maintenance came a week later looked at it, and never came back, I kept an eye on it and no further damage was done, but the issue was never fixed. The issues came when we decided we wanted to move after our lease was up. We gave the 30 day notice as requested, had the apartment looking very nice. At the end of our stay we had gotten a dog that we only had the dog for 4 weeks in the apartment. We personally cleaned the carpets after we got rid of the dog. When it came to getting our deposit back we were told it could take up to 60 days, seems a little long since you have to give the deposit the moment you sign the lease and you have to give a 30 days notice of you leaving. We were told to call 30 days after to make sure things were in the works. We called after the 30 days and were told things were in the works and to call back in another 30 days. We called and were told by Doug that they were waiting on an invoice from the carpet cleaners. Another 30 days passes and we are told because we had an animal that they had to replace the entire carpet of the apartment, this is bogus! One the dog was only in the apartment for 4 weeks and we paid the pet fee of 250 and deposit of 250. Two when the dog left we personally rented a carpet cleaner to do the carpets because we wanted to reassure that we would be getting our deposit back. Three, if Stoney Brook had to replace the carpet why would you have. to wait for a carpet cleaning invoice? Four, why do you pay a pet deposit if it is going to affect the entire deposit (rental.) Five, I know for a fact that it would not cost 600 dollars to replace carpet for a 975 sq ft apartment. Not to mention after giving our notice of leaving the staff became very rude. Doug even hung up on us when we called about the deposit the second time. I have never felt so ripped off in my entire life. We are a young couple trying to start ourselves out, and pay a good amount of money to live in, what seems, a nice establishment, to be treated like crap when we've decided to leave. What if one day we decided we wanted to come back? Or we had family or friends looking for a place of recommendation? This has been awful! We will never recommend Stoney Brook and we will never look to Stoney Brook as a place of home living again!
