Resident 2011

Very Mixed Emotions

I moved here in August of 2009. My first experience with a 1 br unit was horrible (black mold in the a/c area due to years of ill repair). Since I couldn't afford movers and they offered me a perfectly located end unit, I went up to a 2 br unit. Although it was much better overall, there are still things I just can't adjust to. Let me first say that I was used to a large, nice home and keep that in mind as I continue. The carpet (although new) in my unit has to be the absolute lowest price and quality out there. It is constantly clogging my vacuum cleaner from loose fibers. There is little to no padding and the floors are always extremely cold. The living area ajoins a small sun room with a patio door and this entire area is more than drafty. I have caulked every single inch of the windows and it isn't a bit better. There is only one wall where you can put the tv which in my unit, only leaves the sofa wall the one where you feel the wind coming in around your neck. I am a very resourceful person so I ran the cords across the floor under a rug and moved my sofa to the other wall...that problem is now some better. Summer arrived and then I had a problem with yellow jackets under the rail to the sliding glass door. After two months or better trying to explain to the staff where they were located, they finally stopped up the hole. This is when the yellow jackets decided to just live around the corner inside the exterior corner wall. I was stung one day while stepping back onto the patio after taking my trash out. They again stopped the hole but those creatures just made another hole inside their foam caulking stuff and continued to live there until winter came. I have a small patio and when it rains the entire porch gets wet. I don't think there are any gutters on these buildings. The outside patio is where I have to go to access my washer and dryer and that is such a pain. If you keep chairs on your patio, the door to the washroom gets in the way. The interior is very outdated, most of the units with either country blue or apricot colored counter tops. The hinges on the kitchen cabinets are about half broken and constantly close against my head when I am busy in the kitchen. The walls are a horrible off-white. The light fixtures need to be updated very badly. The kitchen appliances are horrible. The dishwasher is so old that it doesn't have a place for jet dry. Everything on the top rack has to be taken out and dried after it is done even if you use those combo packets with the drying agent in them. You may as well hand wash your dishes in my opinion but the sink is so tiny that even that is a struggle. My stove is the worst that I have ever used. When the oven is on, everything on the top gets burned if you do not turn it down to the warm setting. There is only one big burner and it sits very unlevel. I asked for a newer stove but they just sent someone to "repair" it which was a joke. The grounds aren't kept up at all. They do have someone blow off the leaves often but there are so many areas of MUD where I think grass used to grow. Even if you stay on the sidewalk, if it has been raining you ARE gonna be tracking mud into your home. I have had some problems with ants but possibly not as bad as some as the other reviews that I read. My apartment doesn't have a lot of big trees around it like some of the ones on the back side. If you are going to move here that needs to be a consideration. Parking depends on which building you get into I think. I had a problem in the 1 bedroom unit but not as much in this unit. I was awakened by a roach crawling on my face one morning but Sally had someone come spray right away and I have not had a problem since. I really appreciated this. On a more positive side, the rent is extremely reasonable and the neighborhood is wonderful. I just made a decision to move and I am having mixed emotions because I love the area so well. It is very convenient to 565 and my drive to work is a very easy one. The staff here acts as if they care. Sally (the owner) is a very sweet, positive christain seeming lady. The closet space is very good and having a full size pantry has been nice. I have also enjoyed my fireplace. I am saddened in a way to be moving because this has been a peaceful place for me. If they would just put some decent appliances, carpet and better windows in these apartments they could charge more for the rent and get it. They need to let me help them pick a paint color also, hah! You absolutely can not beat the exterior atmosphere, the price or the location of THE LANDING.
