Resident 2011 - 2012

2/1/2012

Safe, Affordable, Pleasant

I'm a female college student and I leased a studio for 7 months. It was my first time living on my own so I picked the shortest lease, in case the area was not safe or I did not like the complex. First of all, the rent is affordable! 455 which includes water and cable. Secondly - Twin Oaks is safe. WAY safer than the Grove which is across the street. (There are SO many robberies, and stick-ups over there, it's insane) No break-ins that I know of have occurred at Twin Oaks since I have lived here, the neighbors know each other and recognize strange faces, and it's well lit (especially the parking lot). Do consider, however, that I live on the second floor for safety purposes and I live closer to the front of the complex than the back. (But college students should take these precautions anyway, especially if you're a female living alone). I also took into consideration the distance from South. My car is unreliable and I need to be able to get to class if I can't drive. All I have to do is ride a bike there, or walk across the street to the Grove and take the Jag Tran to campus. If I wanted to, I wouldn't need a car at all. PLUS, unlike Grove students, I can park on campus - Grove students are not allowed to park on campus during school hours or they'll get fined $40!!! And the Jan Tran usually makes you late to class since they changed the routes which is why the Jag Tran is the alternative to my car and not vice versa. As a fourth point, management is very professional. Susan (office) is a very sweet lady and really goes out of her way to help you. The only con I've had is that maintenance will fix things in a timely manner IF it's urgent, otherwise you might wait a few weeks. I've never had any "urgent" maintenance repairs, only a clogged and slowly draining sink in my 7 months here. The complex might be old, and it may not be super pretty, but it's well cared for. I plan to spend the duration of my college career here and am upgrading to a 1 bedroom with a 1 year lease. My only recommendation is don't move into building 13. Loud people live in that building.
