Resident 2012

10/13/2012

I am currently renting an "Executive" suite, which includes a fully furnished and decorated 1-bedroom unit that is facing the golf course(to which I have green privileges). The rent includes the utilities usage, gas and electric, and phone for local calls. There is also COX Communications internet and cable service, with a secured / password protected link. The unit has a washer and dryer in a closet off the side of the kitchen. TV in the bedroom and in the armoire unit in the living room. I bought my own bed linens and bath towels, even though they provided it (Queen size bed). Fans in each room, and utensils and small appliances (no blender or mixer, but toaster). Knives, pots and pans and cutting board with 2 chef knives (best to bring your own, because it'll probably be sharper). Also included is a weekly houscleaning and monthly pest treatment. Each time the room is serviced by either the maintenance staff or housekeeping, the management rep is present. My first week in, I noticed a light coming from behind my refrigerator, and noticed a sizeable opening in the wall, just above the baseboard behind the unit. I mentioned it to management and since it was a corporate rental, they took care of coordinating the maintenance staff to address it. Otherwise, I'd have to complete the request for service at the front office in person. Turns out that the "hole" I saw was a normal access hole so maintenance can easily repair what is normally behind the walls, between units. Still not to keen about a complete cut-through, so I moved the fridge over to block the view of their carpeted floor. So it seems the key is to have the Exec/Corporate rentals for the added privileges of expedited maintenance. I'm not aware of the regular rent charged to others, but it's probably considerably cheaper since they'd have to do much of the coordinating of repairs, etc on their own. I also get a secure ID card to enter the clubhouse gym area after hours (9-11 pm). For the most part, the amenities in the apartment and the clubhouse are above average. There are tanning beds, a billiard and ping pong room, jacuzzi, outdoor pool, gym area with machines and treadmills, and a main level lounge area with TV and pantry area where they leave cookies and complimentary hot drinks every night. So if you want to get out of the apartment, you can watch TV and heat your food in the microwave in the clubhouse. There is a central playground area for the kids, and an adjacent full court basketball area. Each building has a dumpster located near enough to the building but far enough not to bring pests into the building. Parking spots are unreserved slots in front of each building along every street. There are plenty of friendly folks in the complex, from young transplants to the area, to single consultants, and married transfers with young kids. The only issue I can see is that since the majority of the tenants are Asian Indian, folks may not be comfortable with it. So if you're bigoted, this isn't the place for you. I'm perfectly fine with it, but know that there are folks who probably wouldn't, especially with the interesting spices you'll smell coming out of your neighbor's unit, and on occasion, off of their clothing in the gym (which can get pretty pungent). But it's a gym, so you shouldn't expect it to smell like roses. Don't know about the previous reviewer, but Jennifer has always been very courteous and helpful when I called, arranging the maintenance and help with connecting to the internet. The only downside to the complex is that the main exit off of Moberly is a high traffic road, due to the WalMart Tech? center, and Sam's Club HQ down the road, so it's really hard to turn left out of the unit. There is no sidewalk on the same side of the Links, so you're walking on grass and waiting on the side of the road to cross the street (no crosswalk either) outside the main gate. For parents of school age students, ask to be near the West most exit (off of SE St. Andrews Blvd., since the bus stops there for all the schools. I was fortunate enough to be in the 2001 building that is right by that exit, so we don't have far to go. Just keep in mind the 30 days advance notice for ending the monthly rental, and you shouldn't have any issues. I will update when it comes time for me to terminate my month-to-month rental.
