Resident 2007 - 2009

12/3/2009

Good ol' Southern View. Let's be honest: You're not the nicest of apartments, but you're sure not the worst. Far from it, in fact. Southern View has actually been quite a nice place to live for 2 1/2 years as I finished up my college stint. It is aptly located on the University of Arkansas' Purple bus route (running every 30 minutes), has a nice central mail room, and trash dumpsters located within walking distance to your apartment. The staff seems friendly (albeit with a high turnover rate). Keep your nose clean and Bev and Wes (the husband/wife manager combo) will like you. Maintanence is very good. I have had three calls to maintanence and all three were answered within 24 hours. It's pretty impressive. The grounds are well kept, pool is open most of the year, and the gym is small but full of nice equipment. I can recommend this apartment to any college student, but for a permanent residence, I would definitely shop around a little more. But it can't be all sunshine and puppy dogs. SoView is located right on the interstate. Right. On. I540. Plus two feeder roads. That's right. For me, I lived right on the interstate constantly fighting 8 lanes of traffic whose drivers seem hell-bent on riding the rumble strips as they pass SoView. It makes it near impossible to enjoy yourself on the deck, but is slightly muffled by the paper-thin walls that apartments are accustomed to using nowadays. Pray you have quiet neighbors. Currently, I have no neighbors (thank you recession), but when I did, a hasty door slam by your compadres would send reverberations through my homestead. Don't expect to win any interior design awards either. The carpet is more than decent, but the walls are cheaply painted (and did I mention, seemingly hollow) and the molding is a washed out gray color. Why gray? Appliances are utilitarian at best. Only the essentials. The washer and dryer are HUGE though. One can easily wash a full-size bedding set with ease. My last complaint is not Southern View's fault at all. SoView is located in an area of Fayetteville that has in the past couple of years started to really go downhill. There are several folks wandering the street (MLK Blvd in particular) who look like the kind of folks who would have a run for your wallet if they had the chance. Lewis Plaza is also located between the University and SoView and seems to be a hot spot for Fayetteville's finest to hang around. Don't walk there at night. All in all, SoView has been a great place to live. Lock your car doors, keep Bev on your good side, and pray for an apartment off the interstate and you'll have a great little nook to call your own.
