Resident 2016 - 2018

3/31/2018

I could not sleep in my own home, I am scared for my safety and all we had was a finger pointed at us. Two days ago, Thursday the 29th, we realized that over $500 had been stolen from our bedroom where my boyfriend keeps his tips. At that moment, we were devastated, but also had confirmation because this had not been the first time. Months ago we thought maybe we miscounted, even though we were at least $100 off at the time we refused to believe that someone could be entering our home, it had to be some sort of miscalculation. I called my father and told him about this, time passed, and it happened again. Three days before we realized we had been robbed Joe (my boyfriend) laid his money out in stacks on the bed and entered the exact amount in his phone. It wasn’t until we pulled up to Regions 3 days later to realize half of it was gone. My stomach sunk and we were shaking because we knew we weren’t crazy anymore, it was true. We are the only two people with a copy of our key, neither of our parents even own one. We have not had guests over in weeks and no one goes into our bedroom or knows where we keep it. We immediately went to the Pleasant Ridge Apartment Office and asked to speak to the manger, Maria Roy. She was on the defense before we even had time to finish our story. She repeatedly said “well that just doesn’t make sense, that just doesn’t make sense…Why wouldn’t they take all of it? If it was me I would’ve taken all of it.” We agreed that it didn’t make sense, but we were just trying to find answers. “It must be friends or family, it can NOT be my staff.” It was constant accusations that led to a screaming argument, her standing out of her seat now in my face. Statement after statement contradicting the next. Not only was I scared for my safety living there, knowing that someone knows my car, my schedule, and everything about my personal life and belongings, but now we hit a complete wall in finding out who could possibly be doing this to us. We told her that a man in uniform came by the day previously, but after coming in “realized he was in the wrong place.” On another occasion months back, two men in uniforms entered my apartment while I was changing. They said they were there for routine maintenance, though we never had been notified of it. I didn’t even have time to put a shirt on before they came through my front door. We filed a police report, oddly enough he seemed to know the manager as if he had been there so many times. There was nothing they could do. And there was nothing our insurance could do because Management transferred all residents from eRenters to a waiver that only covers fire and water damage. Maria comes knocking on our door not long after the police left. She held a nub to what was supposed to be their copy of our apartment key. “It’s by law that we have one of these, and yours has been broken off for OVER A YEAR NOW so as you can see it can’t be us!” Proudly waving what she thought was her get out of jail free card, she nailed the suspicion even more. Had someone broken and copied our house key so they wouldn’t have to log it? Has this person been taking a little here and there for over a year? Why was it never reported? Why did they not question this and how does that exempt their staff? She said that she could change our locks (emphasizing it’d be $35 out of THEIR budget), but no one has come. We are lying here at night wondering if they will come back and if they are watching. I wish I could say this is the only negligence I have experienced at the Pleasant Ridge Apartment complex, but that is far from the truth. I could have an ongoing list, but some things I have had to endure here: 1) My a/c shutting off in the summer and no one coming to fix it for days 2) boarding my cats for pest control, only for no one to come and I have to do it all over again a week later from the date they had notified all residents 3) my ceiling leaking and still no one has come to fix it, though we reported it immediately 4) having to call dozens of times over extended periods because the office closes when they want to, not when their hours are 5) MOST importantly, complete disrespect from their employees, namely Maria whose incompetence has hindered our well-being on more than one occasion. She had the audacity to say “before you talk to my supervisor, I just want to say that I felt very disrespected.” Disrespected in the sense that your privacy has been violated for months, you’ve been robbed, and now the only person that can help you is accusing you to cover their own ---? No, for being referred to as incompetent. And have I spoken to her supervisor? No, no one ever called. The voicemail is full for the management company, and they plan to keep it that way. We are doing everything in our power to get out of this literal hell-hole, knowing that there is someone out there meticulous and smart enough, someone that has probably been doing this to innocent people for years, going into their homes and taking away just enough to have you question yourself. It's more than just the money, it’s the invasion of privacy and psychology. The manipulation and the cover up. This story roots much deeper, but there is no tangible proof. Please, whatever you do, keep you and your family safe by never putting your life in danger with Pleasant Ridge Apartments.
