Resident 2015 - 2016

1/30/2016

If I had known that I was moving into the Trailer Park equivalent of an Apartment Complex, I would never have signed the bottom line. I didn't think about it at the time, because I was in a desperate situation and needed a place to live a.s.a.p. I called the complex nearly in tears because I was facing being homeless. My credit score is not the best, nor do I have a traceable rental history having moved back from the East Coast where renting is done much more differently (with individual owners, not Property Mgmt Companies). I feel that I "qualified" to move in w/o a co-signer, but with an additional deposit merely because their occupancy rates were low and they needed to fill quota. Since living here, my downstairs neighbors have both opted to break their leases to the tune of $1,200 because they were unsatisfied with the conditions. The neighbors across from me, both upstairs and down have moved in and out rather quickly as well. The neighbor across from me is a raging alcoholic who constantly has loud arguments with his gf and when his young daughter comes to visit, she slams the door coming in and out nearly 4-5x an hour all day long. I even had to go to the Gilbert PD to file a grievance that the gf was stalking me because she thought her bf and I were having a fling and would pound on my door, screaming expletives and threatening to wait for me until I got home from work. Another neighbor clearly runs an illegal daycare out her apartment and the children make noise well before and after "quiet time". The neighbor across the way must have a hearing problem, because when I come home from work every night at midnight or later, her TV is so loud I have to shut my sliders and windows to keep the noise out and turn my TV up - which; in turn, I received a lovely noise complaint letter as a result of. Ironic, eh? Every outlet in my apartment are the original ones from when the complex was built (probably before I was born in the 70's) and won't hold a plug to save their lives. I'm sure this is a hazard and not to code. The outlet nearest my sink should be a GFCI unit, which is building code, as any outlet within 6 feet of a water source should be one in order to properly ground in the event water gets in it. I never received a copy of my lease, nor did I receive a copy of the "walk-through" checklist and several of my work requests have gone un-followed up on. They apparently also have a resident portal which allows you to make either a one-time rental payment or sign up for automatic payments. Although there was a glitch in the beginning with some of my bank account information, I sent a letter long ago to corporate with all of the correct information only to not still be able to use either "service". Part of the "sell" or "appeal" to the place was the "free utilities". They fail to mention that they control when your AC gets switched to heat and vice versa. In AZ there are days you may feasibly need/want to use your AC again as early as Dec/Jan. Sucks to be you that you can't. The "free" water takes at least 10 minutes to get hot from both the kitchen and bathroom sink, regardless of time of day. My parking spot is in no way in a convenient location to my apartment and neither are any of the garbage dumpsters/recycle bins. I was told the pool was heated. It is not. The jacuzzi would work better if a severely gassy individual was using it. The new ramadas and built-in grills promised in fall have not arrived. They have had 3 water main problems since I moved in and the water has been inconveniently turned off for long lengths of time with very little notice. I think the office staff has turned over about 4 times in the 8 months I've been here, and while very nice to your face, they are severely ineffective and inept. I pay $923 for an "upgraded" model: upgrades include poorly painted, antiquated cabinetry that is hung incorrectly, with newly added brushed nickel knobs - which can be purchased at Home Depot for $10/pack. Vinyl "wood" flooring in my entry way, kitchen and bath. Yay, me! The 4 storage/linen cabinets are hung incorrectly and don't shut completely. The bathroom vanity is severely sloped and warped. (All of these things have been this way since day 1, btw). I'd go on, but what is the point. I am doing one of two things: holding my breath until the lease is up or finding a way to come up with the money to break my lease. That and tell EVERY person I know, run into, heck - even perfect strangers not to waste their hard earned money on the empty promises and shoddy accommodations known as Country Villa Apartments in Gilbert, AZ. Even if you're desperate, do your homework. It doesn't add up in the end.
