Resident 2016 - 2017

1/29/2017

Even before we moved into this apartment complex, we have had nothing but issues. Prior to moving into Stone Canyon to be closer to my school ATSU we had a couple of tours with a great gentleman named Devon. After looking at the apartments (which were a big upgrade from the last ones we were in) and their amenities, we were sold. We paid our deposits and submitted our criteria for what we wanted. We were told to hang tight and we would receive call or email within a couple of weeks. After a month of waiting we decided to check in with Devon, who we hadn't heard from since paying our fees. About two weeks later we finally received a response from another lady named Linda. She informed us that Devon was no longer with Stone Canyon and that no one had even been aware of our situation. Once we got her up to speed, she helped us find an apartment that matched our criteria, she then informed us that she too was leaving in a week. After being shoved onto the next available person, we were finally able to deal with our move in process and get settled. Several weeks after moving in, we started hearing bursts of loud, sporadic banging on our floor at all hours of the day and night. Not sure how to handle the situation we took our situation to management. Katena, the property manager, informed us that there is nothing that she can do and all we should do is call the cops the next time it happens. After bumping into the neighbors adjacent to (the downstairs neighbor) outside one day, we decided to ask them if they have had any similar issues. To our surprise they said that they couldn't move out fast enough due to the constant ruckus being caused by the unstable person. We asked them how they had been dealing with the neighbor, they informed us that they had just been calling the police every time he had an episode. During the week, my boyfriend and I come home from a long day of school, take the dogs to the dog park, make dinner and sit down and study. We have never had any parties, played loud music or done anything beyond the extent of every day survival. Yet the other tenant (downstairs) continues to harass us, by banging on our floors and screaming obscenities and threatening to kill us through the floorboards. Time after time, we have told Katena (the manager), showed her videos and police case numbers and every time she has said that there is nothing she can do. The only advice she can offer us is to call the police or move us to another apartment (free of charge). While this sounds like a great offer, we as two full time college students in very vigorous programs (DPT and Engineering) we do not have time to move apartments nor do we want to after hearing horror stories from other tenants in other buildings about their cockroaches and mold issues. Beyond us complaining to the front office about the downstairs tenant, we have now been informed that the two other tenants adjacent to us (upstairs and downstairs) have also filed a complaint against him and his disruptions. When one of the neighbors confronted the downstairs tenant (after moving in just 2 weeks ago about his disturbances) the downstairs neighbor got violent screaming through the door that he was going to beat him up. Katena at the front office in management has now informed us that she is scared to do a sit down with all of us as she is scared that the downstairs neighbor will yell at her and will not allow any of us out of our lease. Beyond the neighborly issues, we have also been having issues with the dog park (causing dogs to get sick ie. Pee blood, throw up and get valley fever), the broken gate (that has been broken since we have moved in), the consistent changing of front office staff, and the forced choice of getting century link (instead of COX) due to a contract between the apartments and company. At this point we are sleep deprived, frustrated and cannot wait to get out of our lease. We would not recommend this complex to anyone, as they are useless at helping out when you have any major issues.
