UPDATE: To be fair to the property, I thought I should come on here and give an update. I called the corporate office and the manager there was very nice and told me she would contact the Colter Park manager directly and cc the Regional Manager. The Colter Park manager called about an hour later and explained that, although there was nothing she could do about the deposit for move in, she would refund my holding deposit. She stated the policy was that, if a renter would be unable to pay the deposit asked, the holding deposit would be refunded. I went by later today and picked up the money order. In all fairness, the staff who gave me the money order was in her first day at the office. If she is the one who I spoke to early, it's not that she's bad, just that she's in her first day and doesn't know the policy. Everything ended up fine. I am sad that I didn't get to move in there, though. This is the very first time I have ever written a review of an apartment complex. I put in my application over a week ago and the young girl (and it was a different one each time) kept saying, "Oh the manager is out today, she'll look at it first thing on Monday" or "Oh, we had trouble figuring out what YTD meant on your paycheck stub but now we've figured it out." etc. I finally get a call an hour ago telling me I am approved but have to pay a one month security deposit (on top of all the other deposits). I told her that I've never had to do that in my life and I won't be starting today. When I asked why she explained it was my credit score. Then, after I explained to her that I looked at the same report she did and it only had two negative accounts, she stated that she didn't really see my credit score, just that they followed "proper procedures" and that is why I am ONLY paying a one month's rent deposit. She verified that my rental history came back as very good. When I then asked about getting my $150 holding deposit back, she stated that I wouldn't because I had been approved and therefore I could only put it toward a future apartment. So, basically, this is a really great way for them to make money off of people. I'm going to see if I can talk to someone in corporate because it is $150 dollars and the whole situation was just long and painfully drawn out.
