Great location but that's about it. Maintenance is third-world quality at best. (And I lived in India so I know of what I speak.) Maintenance staff is devious and largely incompetent. Major issues take numerous visits to resolve, if they are resolved at all. Office staff claim they have no influence or authority over maintenance issues. No accountability, in other words. And yes, the 20-year old appliances that come standard are a disgrace. We laughed every time we saw the "luxury living" placard at the entrance. The "landscapers" are on par with the maintenance staff. You'd think shade would be a priority, especially considering the southern exposures and lack of double-pane windows and awnings. Instead trees are chopped down and plantings regularly cut back to little more than clumps of sticks. (The area around the large pool by the leasing office was completely denuded, making it ovenlike on hot days.) The extremely high turnover of residents, though understandable, means that neighbors are a crap shoot. And if you end up with noisy partiers downstairs (like we did for a year), plan on laying in a supply of earplugs. Package deliveries are another problem. USPS only delivers to the leasing office. That means a trek over there and waiting around. Sometimes it means a trek over there and waiting around only to be told that the package reported by tracking to have been delivered can't be found. Usually they turn up within a few days but not always. On the plus side, we only observed two or three scorpions. But there are better quality deals in equally appealing neighborhoods in Scottsdale. And though we moved into a much larger place our utility bills decreased considerably due to the low quality construction and insulation at Dakota. I would only recommend as a six-month landing spot for newcomers till you get your local bearings.
