Resident 2003 - 2005

4/30/2005

usually, i get kissed first...

be warned: long story. no ending yet.

so, 3/1, villagio management tells me that they're turning our place into condos, so we're on a month to month lease and we'll be given 30 days notice when we have to vacate.

today (4/29), the girl in the office calls me to tell me to make sure i drop off my keys this weekend because she has to have them by monday at 9am. i assure her that there's been some mistake... i haven't terminated my lease or received anything regarding its termination. she tells me that a certified letter was sent a month and half ago. i never signed for (or refused to sign for) such a thing - and neither did my roommate. there just WASNT a notification.

she goes on to tell me that legally, she only has to prove that she sent the letter... whether or not it was received is incidental. furthermore, if we aren't out by monday morning (5/2) at 9am, they'll file a judgement, take me to court, and have me forcibly removed. i've lived here over 2 years and been a responsible tenant. but no, they will not grant an extension. yes, i'm welcome to call the gen mgr of the management company - who does not return my calls (either of them).

i'm hoping that they'll see that RATIONALLY, it'll take them at least a week to have me forcibly removed and that it's much easier and cheaper to just give me the extension. but the girl in the office is obviously a reincarnation of some resident of blair county who was burned at the stake in the 1800s, so you know... "rational" is kind of a stretch.

so. aside from the practical concerns inherent in moving (ie, finding a new place, getting boxes & packing materials, packing the mass of my ----, renting a uhaul, bribing some muscle, paying deposits, physically MOVING the crap, and UNpacking the mass of my ----), i have to either do it all in TWO DAYS or risk the possibility of getting a judgement on my rental history and becoming the pariah amongst landlords everywhere.

you were warned.
