Resident 2012 - 2013

6/24/2015

My friend and I moved in around May 2012 to a 2BD/2BA. Moving in was no problem, and the first few months were actually pretty good. Our summer bill for electricity maxed at 80 dollars for July, so I'm guessing they have some decent insulation. Then around December/January we started noticing roaches. Not huge ones, but the little ones about the size of a quarter. We weren't very messy people, so we asked management to help us out. They had some sort of thing where they come and spray your apartment if you request it each week. Problem was, we were either working/at school most of the time, so I honestly have no idea if they ever actually sprayed (there was no confirmation on their part) since we were hardly home. If they did, well it really didn't work. It got pretty bad by the end of our lease. I would see 3-4 roaches a day, and I even found one on my pillow! We found out later there was a big infestation near us, so we were getting the overflow. It never resolved itself by the time we moved out again in May 2013. That wasn't the worst part though. The worst was sometime in the fall (I can't remember which month), my roommate went on vacation. One Saturday early morning I wake up to someone POUNDING on my door for a good 15 minutes before I finally answer it. It was a lady in the apartment below me. There was water flooding into her apartment. My roommate's toilet had exploded and it was gushing water everywhere. I quickly went to shut off the water near her toilet (getting soaked by the water in the process), and then I proceeded to call emergency maintenance since it was the weekend and the office was closed. I told them what happened, and they basically said it wasn't really an emergency since I managed to shut off the water. I argued with them until they finally agreed to come out and do something about my flooded roommate's room (but they refused to fix the toilet until it was a weekday). They used some huge vacuum to soak up the water and then tore up a huge part of the carpet and stuck a giant fan underneath the carpet to dry the floor. They told us to leave the fan on for the next 3 days, and it was not a quiet fan at all. So my roommate came home the next day and had to sleep with that stupid giant fan on in her room for 2 days! The staff did not really seem to care about our flood. They never called to check in on us, and they never offered any compensation. It definitely felt like a "Well, sucks for you..." kind of deal. And the poor people below us...I know a lot of their stuff got destroyed. Their apartment definitely got the worst of it since all the water pretty much flooding into their ceiling. Had there been no roaches and no flood, it would have been fine. But my experience here definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.
