Resident ā€¢ 2019 - 2020

8/3/2020

This complex had been a goal for my family to move to for years, but after only spending one year here, we were ready to leave as soon as our lease was up and I would not recommend moving to this complex to ANYONE. To begin, the complex is extremely overpriced. The cost is not justifiable for the quality of apartment. The number of hidden fees was crazy for both the RUBS fees and all the other small fees which added up to nearly $1000 more on my rent. On top of that, we ended up paying extra for a Nest thermostat that stopped working 3 months into having it and the office refused to replace it for some reason that I can only assume as being too cheap to do so. The size of the apartments are great, but the number of service requests we had to submit for simple things was more than any other apartment we'e lived in. The actual grounds of the complex are extremely average and I'd routinely find trash, dog feces, and even broken glass lying around for days. For a place that boasts about their amenities so much, the gym was extremely lackluster and some of the machines were even faulty. Moving out was the biggest hassle. They did not provide any sort of lease renewal paperwork which I have never seen happen at an apartment complex. This is absolutely a scam to trap people into staying and once they realize they never received any sort of notice, then it's too late and they have to pay a penalty for turning in a late notice or get trapped in another lease. My wife got laid off from her job due to the COVID-19 pandemic days before we had to turn in our notice to vacate so we emailed our notice (again no proper paperwork was provided). We then went back and forth with 3 different "managers" where they told is that even though our family had been greatly burdened financially, that they didn't care and they would still keep us on the hook for the SINGLE day we were late in turning our notice in. Never mind Shelton Cook had just sent a resident wide email spewing some PR jargon about caring about their tenants and working with them. Another "manager" then stepped into the email thread and said they would work with us regarding payment (which out of the total of 3 people we spoke to was the only one who offered any constructive response). From there we were ghosted and received no information on how they would "work with us" nor did we ever receive an actual total of what our move out total is after emailing and asking 3 times over the span of 19 days. That is an absolutely ridiculous amount of time to receive any sort of response from the people on charge of where I live and from a company that "cares about their residents." There had been reviews in the past that we shrugged off about the office staff being essentially useless, but they were definitely right. Don't let the nicely decorated model apartments pull you in. Find a nicer complex that matches the price tag with people who manage it that are there for more than a paycheck and to hand off package deliveries.
