Resident 2013 - 2014

7/23/2014

I've lived at "The Crossroads" off and on over the past 4-5 years. The first time, I had a one year lease. Besides some maintenance issues, this experience was pleasant for me. I'm not sure if Bill was the manager then, though. My neighbors didn't have such great luck (their apartment flooded) but I can't speak for their experience - I know they were granted a discount on their rent for that month. Then, within the past year, I decided to move back in, this time in a 2 bedroom with a roommate, for a one year lease (February 2013 - February 2014). This experience was decent, again. I didn't have a bug problem (bed or roach), I didn't have many maintenance issues apart from some outlets). It went pretty well in terms of the apartment/management. I do remember Bill has always been kind of difficult, sometimes he was willing to listen and side with us, other times he just seemed not to care for the residents. I didn't encounter a major issue either time until this 2nd (and last) lease...we paid rent until the end of February. However, we secured our new residence 2/12. So, of course, we decided to start moving things. I left some boxes in the coat closet, some food in the pantry, and cleaning supplies (I always clean before I move). They entered the residence and began working on the bathroom fixtures/sink/tub. I wasn't aware of this occurrence (not so much as a phone call) and of course I set some stuff down and ruined their work...not my fault, they could've asked or told me. So, like the other person below with their wallet issue, yes they did enter my apartment after vacating (although I was still legally the tenant) which I wasn't a fan of, they should look into their turn-around and improving that process, current tenants should not be rushed out. I didn't have an issue with theft though. Oh wait, I just remembered that my roommate (who parked on Orange St. where everyone parallel parks) had her window busted in on her car, because she foolishly left her iPod on the seat. I think that could happen in a lot of places. Just be smart. Would I live there again? Well, my roommate and I have discussed it as we are currently looking for a place. If time crunch occurred/financial desperation, sure most likely (considering these 2 leases went fairly well compared to my other experiences at apartments/houses). The reason why I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, however, is that my friends are snooty and I'm not very picky (could care less about having a dishwasher and the perfect spacious kitchen or separate baths, for instance). It was VERY simple living, and the community is not pretty by any means, but you get what you pay for. Oh, BTW, James, the head maintenance guy, is very good at his work (though I'm sure overworked) and a nice gentleman to have around. I felt safe having him in my apartment when I wasn't there. I have a previous review for this place from my original lease, I just realized. It is still pretty accurate, but I'd say my standards are low.
