Resident 2008 - 2010

First, this is not the best area to live in. Tolleson is only convenient for us because my sister goes to the high school and would have no other way there (she walks). Parking here is a territorial thing, you seriously have to establish to your neighbors that you won't accept their crap of you parking in your spot. We are lucky as we have pretty nice people living in our particular building who are all respectful of parking spaces and if someone is in another person's spot they are like someone visiting people in another building so you have to get them towed. The police do tend to come around quite a bit. When we moved here the gates worked for about a month and our key card never worked, then it broke and the gates were open 24/7 for 2 years! This is our 3rd year here and they just barely fixed them a month ago. I've never gotten in the pool. During the summer days it is packed with too many people and children and they wait to clean it when it is already green. And during the night there are no lights in or around the pool so it is too creepy out. If you have children you should live on a ground floor apartment. We have had the same noisy neighbors for two years and no matter how much I bang on the ceiling this lady's children do not understand how to stop running, stopping, shouting and whatever else they do up there. As for everything else I take walks around the inside of the complex every night and haven't had a problem with anyone or safety and they used to (maybe still do) have a security man riding around. Also, roaches are a problem. When we first moved in the entire 1st year I barely saw a bug. But it was like almost exactly at 1 year they just started coming out. They have someone regularly spray and we spray and we clean stuff up all the time and keep it clean and they still come so it is a constant battle after about a year. Be prepared to continuously call maintenance. Things will start to break one after the other. Shelves, closet shelves, certain outlets won't work, lightbulbs in the hall closet and the outside light in the laundry area have to be changed by maintenance unless you know how. Our dishwasher hasn't worked since day 1 and they have supposedly fixed it twice so I have been hand washing dishes this entire time. Doors warp during the rainy season, circuits blow and power goes out. It is always something. Maintenance usually does a good job at coming out but you have to call the office and tell them because when I've left messages on the maintenance line I never hear back from them and they never come out. All in all if you need a place to live that is income based then this is the place. Just be aware that many people smoke weed, even the kids, don't let your kids play outside at night, if you don't have kids you'll want to spank everyone else's kids because they let them scream, shout, and tear crap up. Walls and ceilings are thin so hopefully you get considerate neighbors. The office staff has gotten slightly better lately and have older staff running the show so they aren't sitting around flirting and not helping people. Another crappy thing is a lot of the units have the A/C fan things right outside bedroom windows. Mine for example has my unit's A/C AND my neighbor's. So if I am trying to enjoy the cool summer breeze and sleep and my neighbors are hot and have the air on, I have to listen to the horribly loud noise of the fan. It takes some getting used to as it will scare you awake. I like to enjoy the summer nights while they are still cool and leave my window open. Same goes for fall/winter. If you are enjoying the colder nights with the window open and your neighbors want the heat on you have to hear their fan right outside your window. Even with all of this I have lived in a worse place that looks better and cost more (Broadstone Desert Sky Apartments, NEVER live there it is hell), so even though these aren't luxury apartments they are better than the last apartment complex I lived at.
