Resident 2006

3/17/2009

I wouldn't call myself a particularly picky person when it comes to apartments, but this was pretty awful, and despite the fact that I could tolerate this place, I would never recommend University Heights to anyone. The model apartment is, of course, very nice, so I had high expectations...unfortunately my actual place was nothing like it. I had to sublet first while waiting for the staff to prepare my actual apartment, and the second I walked in I couldn't believe it. The carpets were stained all over the place, the furniture was in disarray, there was a giant hole in my bedroom door, the microwave had months of food stains all over the interior, the fridge was no different, the oven was completely charred, the tub was still full of hair and water stains, there were no blinds (and I was on the ground level), etc, etc, etc. I approached the staff about this and all they said was, "Okay, like we told you, you get the apartment as is." ...They never said anything like that! They then gave me the option to hire an on site cleaner, but I would have to pay for it. Since I had already paid the first months rent and didn't feel like putting up a fight, I agreed to hire the guy, who was actually pretty awesome. He was as disgusted as I was and couldn't believe that the staff let me move in to the place. It took him about 8 hours to clean (the best he could), and then he ended up charging the actual tenants cause he couldn't bring himself to charge me. There's lots to say, but I'll just highlight my time there. My door was never fixed, and when I moved into my actual apartment the whole bedroom door itself was missing...and after a semester, it was still missing despite several request for a door. The place is noisy, depending on your location. I mean I enjoy a good party every once in awhile, but not ones that go all night and welcome anyone and everyone off the street (it's crazy when an apartment complex gets red tagged). My roommates car got broken into twice within a semester. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that the tenants from my sublet place actually had a big dog despite the "no pets" policy. I found the dog's crap all over my porch. The only good things about Uni Heights is it's location to the UA and probably the laundry room. I ended up moving to a place 30 minutes away from campus, and I don't regret it at all.
